Arum is an idiot point blank. Exclusively limiting this fight to ESPN+ was a huge mistake. He was saying the other day in an interview that he "envisions that the fight do at least 500k, and could possibly reach as high as 1.5 million buys", for this fight. At no point is Crawford that marketable for me to believe hes capable of hitting 1.5 mill ppvs without Errol Spence standing across the ring from him. Maybe not even 1 mill tbh. Arum taking away the traditional way of buying PPVS through cable and satillite providers really hurt Crawford and Porters maximum earnings through PPV revenue for the fight and with those platforms on board, i think 500k ppv buys were possible. Not to mention if you dont even have ESPN+ you would have to purchase the app for at least a month boosting the ppv price to $76.99 instead of $69.99. Good thing that Crawford is finally leaving that crook Arum as he has done nothing but hold him back from his true potential, and failed to get him the Spence fight. Arum says a "fight with Taylor is bigger than a fight with Spence"...??? Yeah okay old man!
He was literally saying (when he and Crawford were going back and forth at each other relatively recently) that Crawford wasn't a draw and he couldn't make money with him. Either he had a lot of faith in Shawn Porter selling the fight or...(surprise,surprise) Arum is lying
But Spence is the face of PBC and is far more in the public eye. Crawford isn't the face of TR as hard as Arum tried to build him up to be.
Arum knew this was Crawford’s last fight under Top Rank. Also he’s in his 90s and already made enough money for several lifetimes. He couldn’t care less about how many PPV buys this did, if anything, Bob is probably happy this fight totally flopped, as a final “**** you” to Bud on his way out the door.
Wow. That is indeed pitiful. I woulda thought closer to 500k but I guess Crawford just isn't a draw. No surprise as he has not been in many big fights prior to Porter.
Yeah I'm not a fan of the ESPN+ pay per views. I definitely miss the good old days of HBO. With that said, I do like the DAZN business model although it looks like they will be having pay per views now.
These numbers are AWFUL and shows boxing is dying. It has nothing to do with ESPN + when Crawford fought Amir Khan it only did 125K buys and when he fought Postol it did 50K buys. Boxing's appeal is not that high anymore. There are so many straming apps and channels now and most of these boxers are not household names except a few like Mayweather and Pac who are retired. Even Canelo is not a household name outside of the hispanic market. Whites and Blacks do not know who Canelo is.
Bull ****!!! Canelo is on the level of Floyd, Roy Jones, Manny, Tyson...etc when it comes to popularity.
Not shocking, I would say Terence Crawford is boring as whale****, but staring at a pile of whale**** is a hell of a lot more interesting. He's burned casuals one too many times.
