Thanks Serge for the info! ...didn't know him,but have heard about him, just didn't see any fights. He seem to be a warrior and i like that(travelling to other country).Even tough i don't follow closesly this division.
He beat some good unbeaten boxers like Prograis,Catterall,Postol etc...alots.Just don't know why he got badly promoted? He should be a star like:Crawford,Spence and the likes.Hope to see his next fight!
I believe he would be well known amongst sports athletes and hardcore sporting fans. He's reached near star status at this point. He just hasn't been promoted well.
I think he's elite but i think he's been taken out of the oven too quickly. Which is good for boxing but maybe not so good for him in hindsight due to the promotional and television network differences. If he was manufactured and had matchroom's backing early on then potentially he wouldn't have had the toughest fights at this point in his career. He might have been a bigger name at this stage, though.
That's a shame. He is the best Scottish fighter since Harrison IMO and might just end up on the Ken Buchanan level or better when all is said and done.
That's pretty much the way I look at it. Most household name boxer from the UK were promoted over 30 or so fights with a lot of less than average opponents mixed in. God, I remember Htton defended that WBU title against alsorts for what felt like a decade lol. Calzaghe too had a lot of defences against some mediocre guys. He has just missed out all the filler fights at went from tough fight to tough fight. Most guys in the UK are not too well known with less than 20 fights.
Unfortunately not - Boxing is nothing like as popular as it once was in Scotland - and it's never been as big as it was in England in terms of "casuals" - it's always had a very strong hardcore/roots following, but not that crossover thing. Ricky Burns was a 3 division champ and no one knew him from Adam - a lot of the blame there is due to promoters and marketing, and it's the same with Josh. A Scottish (or Welsh/Irish for that matter) fighter could be the second coming of Ali and they would not get the big marketing and hype that you see with Joshua, Eubank Jr, Connor Benn and others - hell look at how they are pushing Campbell Hatton. Ken Buchanan fought Duran ffs, and most kids these days wouldn't be able to tell you who he was As others have noted, Josh has been 'fast-tracked' as a pro, so there has not been the same time for him to bed in and build that big following. Moving to Top Rank gave him the Undisputed, but Arum not doing much to build his UK profile. It's on the upturn though, he's been doing some Sky punditry where he came across well, and was on a sports quiz show that is popular - the fight with Catterall will help (Scotland v England), after that he really needs the bigger names on the world stage - unfortunately for Josh, Crawford/Spence just aren't that big a name on the world stage in terms of being news worthy - I think that's why Josh was talking about getting Pac; if he could have got Pac in the UK, well that would have catapulted him.
I worked shift work for many years. Someone recommended me to listen to the Shipping forecast to help drift off to sleep. But I was to riveted with it, kept wanting to know whether it was good or moderate in Dogger.
I knew Taylor before he got famous, mostly through his uncle's FB posts. He was a Taekwon-do champion before his amateur boxing days. His uncle is a grandmaster of Taekwon-do and acquaintance of mine. The tattoo on his right torso is the Korean writing of 'Taekwon-do'
He's been handled fantastically in terms of fights and career progression...... hence undisputed in what 17 or 18 fights? Promotionally however..... he's not been pushed. So we have a fantastic fighter on our hands but with a limited profile. Now he's with SKY hopefully he'll get the push and backing he deserves.
