I dont have anything against Leonard. I have him at #6 as a welterweight. Not bad! I just said that he had a limited future as a middleweight which is why he skipped over the division - 0 defenses more ever, since Floyd is the more proven fighter, he must be given a realistic shot against a shot Hagler. If you read my post, I referred to Michael Spinks as the pioneer of how to take down a bigger man, and before him, Jimmy Young. He did extremely well against the much larger, but sluggish Ali.
Yes, I do... ...and succeeding with it too, since Hagler and Canelo are quite different and this shouldn't need explaining to anyone, really.
lol , bs Are you even reading what you are writing ?? Mayweather is a more proven fighter than Ray Leonard? You can tow the state of Texas thru those 2 resumes ... So A) you dont know much about boxing or B) you are probably a huge Terry Norris fan ,,, lol Like I said , welcome back
You seem to be drifting off-point. What are you referring to now? How is it related to the differences between Hagler and Canelo?
ODH, Pac and Mosely were past their best. Canelo is overhyped and when Mayweather faced him he was nowhere near the boxer he is today. Corrales and Gatti were nothing special. Maidiana and Castillo almost beat him and neither were anything to write home about. So did an old version of ODH. He is an all time great, but also massively overhyped.
Are you one of these morons who thinks Mayweather beats everyone? Leonard only beat Kalule because of his rapid combination punching. Something Mayweather wasn't known for. Kalule was a tricky boxer who would give Mayweather a lot of problems.
Just when I think the lack of quality in your posts can’t sink any lower… …you manage to find that extra bit of stupidity to put you into that next, decreased circle.
I see this more like Mayweather entering the ring at 151 and Hagler entering the ring at 159. Like I’ve said, Canelo was bigger than Hagler.
Terry Norris? Well, he certainly ran into the wrong opponent THAT night! I must admit, I didnt think Terry had a chance that night but he proved all of us wrong. Seeing is believing. Had Leonard won that fight, he'd rank much higher on the ATG list, possibly even up there with Floyd
not everyone, but Kalule was an ordinary champion. a lot of guys could have beat him. He was a durable, straight up boxer with a high guard, not much movement, and little power. nothing tricky about him and surely no match for a multiple division champion like Floyd who has a bad habit of never losing.
I think a few have already nailed the chief misconception of this fantasy match-up. That is: There is no real comparison between SRL and FMJ. Not physically; not mentally; not in terms of style or tactics. Mayweather certainly wouldn't have been able to create the level of animus that Leonard did (Although, Leonard did have years over which to cultivated that aspect of the dynamic between he and Hagler). Against Mayweather, Hagler would have been less distracted by the event. He'd have very likely felt he had little to prove and just go about the business of winning, applying pressure and walking through what little offense Mayweather had to offer. He'd maintain that assault, throughout; not fade like OdlH or retreat like Mosley. It's a tall order for Mayweather. He didn't really fight a Hagler-level opponent - not even 'the last fight of his career' version of Hagler.
