Why is Whyte pricing himself out of another whirl Title fight?

Not the first time.
Did he not decline a fight with Joshua a few years ago?
7 million was it?

 

Only when the mandatory has been called and it ends up going to purse bids. Neither of which has happened.

 

He was clearly mid cycle then anyway.

 

I think there's a 10%-20% chance of this fight happening, so I would certainly not bet on it.

When it becomes clear it won't I think it's not a great loss, putting everything else to one side, just as a fight on it's own I don't think it's that exiting certainly compared to other potential fights. The result is not in any doubt, the gap in ability is just too big and despite a HW fight generally being less predictable, I think this is as close to being a foregone conclusion as you can get at this level unless Fury goes into the ring with a serious injury.

The build up could be better than the fight itself. I just don't see Dillian being competitive.

I would (in order) rather see Tyson fight:

Usyk
AJ
Joe Joyce

I think it's more likely he vacates and/or fights Usyk vs AJ winner regardless of the outcome of Dillian's arbitration than he comes to an agreement regarding the Whyte fight.

 

IMO Whyte should face Fury regardless. There is too much ****ing around in boxing. Get these guys fighting and let’s see who is the best. Whyte is quick to back himself, and rightly so, I think he’s a proper throwback who will fight anyone and brings enormous value to any fight. I hope this fight happens. As a boxing fan, I want to see this fight.

 

Where has this rep of Whyte’s come from? He literally turned down a fight for belts in front of 90,000 and a career high purse.

 

I want this fight to happen just for the sake of getting to see Fury verbally slaughter him at the press conferences. I'm sure his big dope of a brother would be hanging around putting it on Lemar the White Rhino Molina too.

Part of me wants to like Whyte, but then he opens his mouth (sort of...he opens one side of it). He would probably get more sympathy from fans if he hadn't repeatedly turned down world title shots while simultaneously complaining about his lack of opportunity.

 

I hope it is Whyte and not Joyce. He’s tough and durable but his lack of speed would make the fight a dull one sided one. Whyte is game and will give it a go

 

As a fan, I like Whyte. He is afraid of no one and puts it on the line regardless. I am not interested in the politics and the purses and all that crap, although I do understand these fighters need to maximise earnings. Look no further than the Povetkin rematch. To get iced in that manner and do a rematch immediately tells us a lot about Whyte. Many boxing folk thought Whyte was making a mistake by immediately rematching Povetkin
I hold no torch for Whyte, but as a boxing fan, I enjoy watching him and his attitude towards a fight.

 

Fury was beaten by very mediocre John McDermott.

 

There was no politics behind it though mate, he got offered a shot at 3 belts and turned it down.

 

Turned down an IBF title shot vs Pulev

Turned down a title shot vs AJ for all the marbles other than the WBC.

Is now ready to turn down a WBC and lineal shot vs Fury

The can man is increasingly looking like the can’t do man.

We have reached the point now where he needs to stop bitching and step the **** up.

 

Was it a late notice shot or did he have the required time to train properly?

 

His excuse was the money split in the rematch clause so turned it down. They offered him 50-50, in his own words. Clear as day he was mid cycle.

 

Whyte might soon understand that his long-running grievance against the WBC is of little interest to anyone. It was a filler story for Sky Sports while he was on their channel, and it fills up some YouTube minutes on the boxing vlogs, but aside from that nobody really cares.

If he was that confident in his ability rather than some perceived nonsense about his value (put in his head by Matchroom) he'd take the fight on Fury's terms and win it - and then cash in as he wishes.

He can't be that confident.
