Greetings. Fury says that he will fight in February, early March the latest. It looks to me like the Whyte fight won't happen, because he wants 45%, and he ain't getting it. I am disappointed, because Whyte deserves a shot, let's be fair to him, and with Usyk unavailable, it is the most credible name out there. Joyce has been mentioned as the the second choice. I like Joyce and think it would make a good fight. Also, Joyce is no spring chicken (older than Fury), so it is a good time. But if, for some reason, Joyce is unavailable, why not Rivas? Rivas dropped Whyte in a losing effort, and has got back on the winning trail with he inaugural bridgerweight title victory opposite Rozicki. The bridgerweight is a WBC belt, and so there is an instant credibility as a WBC challenger. Rivas was ranked as a WBC heavy before "moving down," and has indicated he might still take fights at heavy. Just an idea. What do y'all think?
I wouldn’t mind the fight and Rivas recently fought, so inactivity shouldn’t be an issue and Rivas would show up to try and win.
Not exactly legacy defining. at a push it could be a stay busy fight. I would rather he fight someone higher ranked as I don't see Fury having more than 2- 3 fights before retiring and his resume is a little thin even if he remains undefeated.
Personally i think its a terrible fight Oscar's lack of head/body movement would make it quite a routine fight for Fury
Fury-Joyce isn't a difficult fight to make, they are both associated with Frank Warren. Fury-Whyte won't be so easy, Fury may not fight him unless he has to. I'd sooner Fury fight Yoka than the small and mediocre Rivas.
Supposedly Whytes asking to much...I don't get Whyte, he's been hanging about & held back as WBC No1 & when he gets a shot he quibbling about money...Makes you think he dont want the Fury smoke....
I don't really think Whyte adds much more. They are both secondary fights. Everyone will remember Klit, Wilder, and if he can add them, Joshua or Usyk (who I am not sure about at all!) Whyte or Rivas will be secondary mentions. But thanks for the response.
Stylistically, not a good match up. Fury would win in straight-forward fashion. Fury would just use his length, and keep it long. Rivas can't mix it up enough for the likes of Fury in combating the height difference. Against anyone else, though say Rivas vs Hunter... that would work better for Rivas.
It was the same thing with Joshua. I am not saying the doesn't want the fights, but he dramatically over-estimates what he brings to the table.
I'm not sure if anyone else here has a working memory that stretches back further than 3 years, or access to Google's search engine... but I can recall countless times where Fury has said "I'll give Whyte a shot when I'm champ." I mean he was also ordered to fight Whyte for a Diamond belt, but ran from that too. It's weird isn't it. Wallin and Schwarz can get a fight, with 17 people in attendance. But Dillian Whyte.... a proven PPV draw who has sold out the 02 Arena on several occasions... can't get the same Fury invitation? Yep, it's a duck. Fury prefers easy fights, look at him here curling his midget opponent: This content is protected That's how he likes it.
It's the money. I want Whyte to get his chance, and he will, once they enforce mandatory status. But Fury isn't giving away 45%.
