Manny Pacquiao refusing to agree to Olympic standard drug testing during the Floyd negotiations. I was a huge Pac fan and Floyd hater at the time so I justified Manny’s decision. But even then, deep down, I knew something wasn’t right. Imagine having the love and support of your entire nation behind you, as well as millions and millions more people all over the world, when your arch nemesis accuses you cheating. You vehemently deny that you’ve cheated and yet you refuse to go along with only slightly more stringent drug testing to prove your innocence. You have the opportunity to KTFO the man who has humiliated you, prove that you are the greatest fighter of your generation and one of the greatest fighters ever, become the undisputed welterweight and PFP champion AND make hundreds of millions dollars for doing it…and yet you refuse because…principal?
De La Hoya fan here , hated his use of nose candy and yes, the cross-dressing. Diminished his stature in the boxing world.
JMM - ticked every box for being a fighter. His body transformation near the end though at a time when I was in denial of performance enhancing substances was hard to accept as a big fan.
Pacquaio: Not the brightest tool in the shed. Thinks he can do anything an all in one kind of guy. Singer, artist, Army, senator. Disappointed that he is not the humble person that he likes to portray. Fake! Also wasn't the best boxer in terms of skills. There were better skilled and fundamentally sounder than him Marquez, Morales and Void. Casimero: He is not a gym rat. Balloon in weight in between fights. Doesn't stay in shape and has to lose the weight quickly and it can't be good for your bodies health. He can be lazy. Also attracts haters because of his brash personality. Teofimo Lopes: just a young kid mentally and it's not his fault.I don't mind his dad.He tries to be like Floyd in defense shoulder scroll BS. Plant failed at it! Teo needs to stop being like Floyd and be himself. He has all the talent in the world. Stop putting your hands down your waist and scroll the punches FFS. Keep em up! That's the cardinal sin in boxing dropping ya hands. That's why Loma got a lot of shots in.
The title says "favorite fighters". You aren't very well informed. Pacquiao did agree, but the fight did not happen anyway.
Tyson Fury - loves a session on the jager bombs and gear Josh Taylor - wears a kilt Canelo - is ginger
Loma's fearlessness. He should've moved back down to 130 after winning a title at a third weight because he's giving away huge physical advantages against these giants virtually everytime he fights and it's one thing to routinely to give away a lot of weight to fighters who are coming in one, or close to or over two divisions heavier than you if not more but when you're routinely giving away a lot of reach to them (3 to 5.5'' with the exception of Crolla) it's too much for a natural FW because a lot of these guys are killing themselves to make 135 and are massive after they've rehydrated. And an awful lot of these multiple weight champions jack themselves with PED to help them bridge the gap as they move up in weight or were massive weight bullies who are still bigger than their opponents, still have a reach advantage or at worst weigh about the same as them even in their second or third divisions or even fourth divisions in some cases. Take Terry Crawford for example, great fighter but he's never been at a reach disadvantage in any of his world title fights, let alone a 3 to 5.5'' one. Even up in his third division. And at worst he weighs the same as all these career 147 pounders he's been facing. He looked bigger than career 147 Porter the other night even though Porter turned pro as a SMW, didn't weigh under the SMW limit until his his 10th fight, and didn't even make the welterweight limit until his 17th fight. Point being is Terry is not beating guys who have a huge weight advantage, if any weight advantage at all, or even a short reach advantage on him even in his third weight class so of course it's much easier to be more dominant when you're still facing opponents your own size or who are smaller than you than it is when you're facing ones who are way heavier and longer than you Also a lot of these multiple weight champion greats cherrypick as they move up. They pick and choose which champions to fight and avoid the more risky ones or certain unfavourable styles at those weight classes, or they wait for them to age or start to slip, or weaken them with catcheweights, rehydration clauses, short camps etc. before they'll sign on the dotted line. Loma's never done that once but it gets conveniently ignored because cherrypickers who stack the deck and weaken their opponents at the negotiating table so that they're not facing full strength versions of them and who jack themselves full of PED>>> clean legacy fighters who face full strength versions of their opponents, even though their opponents are way bigger than them, on an even playing field
Pernell Whitaker - sometimes liked to toy with his opponent a bit too much and favor display of skills rather than ensuring a win. Not sure it's a flaw from a fan perspective, but it narrowly cost him the DLH fight in my book An excellent and thrilling fighter to watch though
This is very well-stated. And I'll add to it. Though a boxer by nature, Marciano said something to the effect that the guy that he least liked getting hit by was Charles. He said (paraphrasing) another guy hits you and you go fuzzy, and then you snap out of it. When Charles hit you, it hurt. He really caused pain with his punches. Not an exact quote, but if you can find it, it is a good one. I use it to illustrate that there are different kinds of power in the sport.
Before his fight with Conor Floyd hadn`t stopped anyone since 2009 because of his poor punching technique.
