Let me piggy back on this. In Dave Anderson's excellent book Sugar Ray....Robinson said "a great warrior never loses, something just happens to keep them from winning."

Sean was a great announcer. He also said something to the effect of "you have to hit your opponent so that he enjoys getting hit".

My Bronx main man Iran Barkley was asked what his strategy was for the fight about to happen.
Iran says "Imma go in the ring, Imma knock him out".

Yeah I remember Sean talking about ‘hit the spot, get him used to you hitting the spot, then bring the power once he’s convinced you don’t have the power.’

Iran Barklely, when asked by a reporter what he planned to do after boxing:

    "Rob your house."

I always heard that when Cosell watched Holmes fight and vowed that he would never call boxing again, Cobb said "If me and Larry go another fifteen will you quit football?"

Another one, someone called Cobb a fat, coke-headed bum, to which Cobb replied "I'm not fat."

When asked if he planned to fight again: "Anything to keep from getting a real job."

There are like a hundred more. You could do a Tex Cobb thread.

    AL ALPERT

Shawn was awesome. I met him a couple of times at Tuesday Night Fights and the first time I was wearing a Rolling Stones sweatshirt that I had bought at a concert just before. He started telling me how much he liked the Stones and asked me about the concert and we ended up chatting about music instead of boxing for a few minutes. Just a regular guy, no pretentious.

Tbh, I was going to post a light hearted reference to the post fight interview with Andrew Golota after the Tyson fight.

But then I remembered how disturbing it actually was. I rewatched it and the way that interviewer was trying to criticise and malign Andrew for quitting was appalling. Particularly when Golota bore the clear scars of fighting and was obviously still heavily concussed.

If Golota had hauled off and knocked that pr*ck interviewer out I would’ve been more than happy. That bonus piece of violence might’ve also made up for the shortfall as “perceived” by the PPV fans who think a fighter’s welfare and future health is also being “bought” lock, stock and barrel by their subscription.

    Think again.

I really enjoyed his comments. Better than most of the jabonis doing fights now. I wonder what he is up to lately.

There was a great quote that i have seen attributed to others over the years, but I believe it was Ruben Navarro who said it about his archrival/drinking buddy Mando Ramos. "Mando!? He's not in shape. He trains in bars. I would know because I was with him."
