Yeah it was ruled a slip. If it wasn’t Kambosos would of not scored a 10 and he got a 10 on all 3 judges cards. The issue was with Lopez’s score.
9-9 makes a whole lot of sense to me, but unfortunately in boxing there is a 10 point must system which means the fighter winning the round must absolutely get 10 points. I thought Lopez was clearly winning the round which means under the 10 point must system I could either score the round 10-9 Kambosos or I could have score it even 10-10. I thought Lopez was clearly winning the round but not dominating it so I chose to score it 10-9 Kambosos. My thinking being that the knockdown outweighed Lopez winning the round by just a little bit.
Aaah ok, I think I follow, so in this instance Kambosos ends up with a 10 so he is deemed to have won the round after scoring the KD which was deemed superior to Lopez previous success. So Lopez effectively loses the round and an extra point for the KD making it 10-8 on 1 judges card. But the other 2 split the round 10-10 deeming the KD and Lopez previous success to be even, plus the KD for Lopez makes it 10-9. Or nah? Ha! I can see why most of the time when a KD is scored it’s just an automatic 10-8. It really gets murky if you go down this route.
Lopez - Kambosos 1: 8:10 2: 9:10 3: 10:9 4: 9:10 5: 9:10 6: 9:10 7: 9:10 8: 9:10 9: 10:9 10: 10:8 11: 9:10 12: 9:10 111-116 Kambosos
Just checked Boxrec.com and the scores from all the judges reflect that Kambosos was down in the 10th round, as well as boxrec has it recorded as Kambosos down in the 10th.
Hmmm…. The DAZN commentary team didn’t count it as a KD. Like, there was no count and the ref didn’t signal a KD. I’m 90% sure it wasn’t ruled a KD.
I think a 10-9 score for Kambosos in the first round is highly possible. Lopez was winning that round big and kambosos was able to score the KD. IM not sure an extra point to kambosos that round, after getting pretty much dominated is warranted.
