Canelo and his team have repeatedly said that they want to become undisputed. He could have done that by beating Andrade who held the only remaining MW belt (in 2019). Why did this fight not happen? Canelo could have been undisputed at both MW and SMW becoming the only person after Holyfield to do so.
Because Andrade brings very little reward to the table and is very hard to look good against. Though I remain hopeful that he’ll get either Charlo or GGG/Murata winner.
I’m agreeing with you, actually. The reason Andrade isn’t chosen because he’s a lot harder to look good against. Even his mandatory Munguia wants no part of it and decided to go after the WBC belt.
Easier to get undisputed @ 168 Finds it easier to fight at heavier weights Avoiding GGG by saying he won't go back down to 160. Dont know what will happen if GGG moves up. I'm not saying this is true but it sounds like it came from a spin doctor.
Could have done that after dispatching Andrade. Kovalev was only going to grow older. All the hoo-ha about being undisputed at SMW when he could have done that with just one fight.
Because Andrade is a spoiler...........anyone who steps into the ring with him, there is the distinct possibility that he outboxes you and makes you look extremely bad. Even if you can possibly squeeze a win out (and no one has yet), you will look woefully inept doing it. There is no higher risk, lower reward fight than Andrade between 160-175
