Danny Garcia's Dad, Robert Garcia's Dad and now Teofimo Lopez's Dad.. All the same.. They talk tough like they could face any pro boxer themselves when in fact they're just living vicariously through their sons.. Sad to think about it.
Tyson Fury's Dad is an exception.. I think he's crazy enough to throw the kitchen sink at you in a streetfight... Gypsy Blood
The answer is because they don't have to do the fighting. And I think you hav forgotten a certain Fury-ous gypsy with a penchant for gouging out eyeballs.
There are examples of them being quite the opposite to Lopez Snr etc. Papa Trinidad and Siaca Snr spring to mind.
I think it is psychological, to toughen up their son's, show them that the only thing they have to fear is fear itself, wise words of Franklin D. Roosevelt spoken during the Great Depression of the 1930's. The Dad that envisions his son as a fearless great fighter.
Creating buzz for their sons so they don't have to be as arrogant. Freddy Roach did the same for Pacquiao. Pac didn't speak very much English and was too nice in the press conferences so Freddy did it for him. Same for these guys.
The way a man screams when you dislodge his eye. It's satisfying at the time, but the scream haunts your nightmares for years.
I remember teddy atlas saying some stupid stuff like when a son is hurt it takes the father back to a memory where he was being pumelled so he freezes and doesn't throw in the towel because mentally he is not there. Effed up eh?
