Difficult question for a Brit to answer. The majority voted out of the EU, with the majority of that vote coming from the working class. Boxing doesn't generally attract the types that call themselves "European." Though saying that you get all sorts in the crowds. Maybe some Scott's might have a different position on that. But I've always sensed on my travels that the Europeans don't consider the British as European beyond proximity to the mainland, anyway. Though I generally feel we have more common ground with them than Americans at times, even if the shared language makes things simpler. Does that non-answer answer your question?
HOF? Yes ATG? No As it currently stands if he retired next week, no he isn't. If he regained all the belts at LW again, then he moved down to 130 (I'd like him to), and cleaned it out, then reigned a bit more, I'd say "possibly". I don't think he has enough time. Disclaimer: I am a Loma fan
Lomachenko was going to have 20 or so fights as a professional. Unless he did freakish weight jumping like Pacquiao he would never be a true ATG in many people's eyes regardless of what he did. Both Usyk and Loma put their amateur accomplishments over professional ones.
If he went 20, champion at 126, 130, undisputed at 135 and retired 20-0, most people would consider him an ATG. His two losses are what make anybody who isn't a fanboy beyond skeptical of his abilities. Usyk is recognized as an ATG by almost everybody with only 19 fights.
Loma lost because he didnt do anything for most of the fight vs Lopez. I think Loma might have been sick or injured or something. when Loma did punch he landed when he didnt do anything which was a lot of the time it made it impossible to give him rounds. It's clear to me something was up with Loma and he'd easily win a rematch maybe by KO.
They still wouldn't. Absolutely nobody fights Salido as his second fight. Usyk wasn't considered an ATG after beating Gassiev. Beating Joshua at HW made people do that.
He only had 15 fights after Gassiev. He was considered a cruiser ATG after that and the win against Bellew made him the CW GOAT in most people's opinion. Now, with less than 20 fights, he's considered a real pound-for-pound ATG and by many the best H2H fighter pound for pound right now. If you don't think most people would consider him an ATG if he wouldn't have lost twice and had five more meaningful wins, I don't know what to say. Look at how many votes he has on the poll despite having lost twice with only 15 wins, several outside of title fights.
Im a huge loma fan, but rn he isnt. Not going undefeated isnt a factor as well imo, so many fighters have losses but are still ATGs, his two losses are ones you can take with a grain of salt, altho im just really talking about the salido fight. His loss to teo was legit, we cannot fault teo for loma's inability in the first half of the fight, but he was the better man when he did put his foot down, nonetheless he lost fair and square. There is a path for him to be an ATG rn. Win back his belts vs kambosos, wipe the floor with haney then pull a thanos at 130. Beating the likes of Valdez and an up and coming shakur will look really good on his resume. Maybe a defense or two against Ryan will also help pad it. There is no doubt that he will be favored in every fight at 130 and 135. Fight till hes about 37-38, and end with something like 26-2 will still look good. Lets just hope he stays healthy.
Usyk is an ATG period. Undisputed lineal at CW and a unified champ at HW. With a chance to become an undisputed lineal at HW as well. What a terrific boxer.
Cruiserweight was arguably the best it ever was in terms of competition when Usyk was competing in it.
