Yes but despite all this he was still favored and #2 like Norton. It is what it is regardless of anything else.

I see a very tenuous similarity myself.

Well you put forward those two stand alone points as a plus on where Norton stood at that time. Louis despite being way past it achieved the same. So they mean something solid for Norton but not for Louis is what you are saying?

Feel bad. Started looking up others who don’t have nice headstones at all. My man Ezzard Charles needs an upgrade.

It’s overall opponent’s age not just the top best.
Do you really want to dive into Holmes defenses? I almost puked looking at them. Amazing how many guys he fought with under 20 fights. Can’t imagine what you’d say if Marciano did that. Finally fought a decent light heavy weight and he got beat. Imagine if he fought Witherspoon at 20 fights instead of 15
The inexperienced Vingo would have been a seasoned vet compared to half those guys

simple question, Who was a better HW than Joe Louis when he came out of the war?

Louis wasn’t the same anymore but who was actually better at that time?

Until he fought Charles, Louis was still the top banana in the division.

And Even after Charles, Louis was still climbing the ranks as a genuine contender.

what have I said on this thread that was so outlandish?

You can’t convince anyone the crucial element that made a past prime Norton so difficult for Larry was his size.

Marciano did everything better than a past prime Norton. Too much work rate. Too much power. Too much durability.

I also put forward that Louis had been inactive for 4 years never recovered his form and was 3 years older than Norton and retired immediately after the Marciano fight .Norton had beaten the number 2 heavyweight to gain his position, who had Louis beaten?

Louis beat the number 2 ranked Savold number seven ranked Brion x2 a still game Bivins. Almost more ranked wins then Norton’s whole career. Louis also wasn’t fighting for a title against Marciano

You make statements and when they are proven wrong ,change the gaol posts.
I get that Marciano is God to you ,but you carry your devotion to unrealistic lengths
describing Norton as ancient at 34 when Marciano's best wins are over a man 38 ,one 41 one 37 a ring worn 33 with nearly 100 fights on his sheet You make asinine remarks like he finally fought a decent lightheavyweight when everyone with half a brain knows Spinks was a great light heavy who ,with the benefit of modern science came in 200lbs&205 and Holmes was 36 and 37at the time, an age when Marciano was safely tucked up eating dinners someone else had paid for , In contrast Marciano fought two ex lightheavies in the 180's and both were past prime and that's from Moore's own mouth. Walcott and Louis promptly retired after the Marciano fights because they were done, you will not accept that and nobody expects you to because you are a rabid, fanatical Rockista who loses all sense of objectivity when his idol is the subject under discussion..
Savold was 36 and more washed up than Louis.he had141 fights on his clock, winning just half of his last dozen, would have one more against Marciano and be retired by his manager for his health.
Getting a ranking in the 50's was hardly difficult Cockell was no 2 once!

    Bye.

Moore 38*. I don’t mind your other differing opinions as they are just that. Opinions. Moore’s age isn’t an opinion nor up for debate.

you asked a question who did Louis beat to get the number two ranking…it was answered. More people of note then Norton did at that stage of his career. Louis was past it but not useless and that’s proven by his wins prior. You just can’t accept that.

Walcott was just as good as the Norton who entered the ring against Holmes. All people age differently. And once again the “Norton was ancient” dog was just that. A joke. He was obviously still game. I just like using the silly anti Marciano comments against you and others. So now you see how silly the argument is maybe we will stop seeing stupid comments like Archie and Walcott were uselessly old.

Wikipaedia,Encyclopaedia Brittanica, and many others ,including Moore's Mother list his DOB as 1913.

They would be wrong. Archies mother didn’t raise him and had nothing to do with him. I’m not sure of her mental status through out her life. I’ll take Archies word for it he knew when he was born as did his family. It’s on his tombstone and what was on his government documents .

Well it would be very revealing if everyone who voted for Rocky was under 6 ft and over the age of 40.

Norton slower than Rocky? How in God's name did you come to that conclusion? Do you mean foot speed or just in general?

Norton and Rocky have very different styles. The only similarities are coming forward and having a high gas tank. If Norton fought like Rocky he'd have at least 7 KO losses.
