GGG is far better head-to-head than he is in terms of ranking. Pretty poor record, all things considered. It's not even really his fault, he was just in a really, really poor era.

I think I had him somewhere in the late thirties or early forties.

He might possibly be argued thereabouts. He is arguably undefeated after all. Hagler, Monzon, Hopkins, Greb and SRR should all be ahead of him, so not top 5. But after that he might start to compete for a place.

This is actually like the Mendoza GGG top 10 thread but cut in half .. I had GGG out pointing Canelo is both fights so a case for him can be made , imo around that 10 spot , or the lower spots ...not top 5 for me

    No.

It would have been interesting to see how history would have played out, if there had been one title at 160.

He would have either held it, or he would have been a latter day Harry Wills.

The simple answer is no. GGG isn't top 5 at 160.
I actually like his resume more than most - Brook, Lemieux, Jacobs, Derevyanchenko, Canelo (1-1) isn't so bad IMO though it could be better.
I think he beat Canelo in a competitive one the first time around, winning nearly all thr middle rounds, and lost 7-5 the 2nd time around.

Even H2H at MW, I'm not so certain he is top 5

I think he has amazing ability but I don’t see the kind of names on his win list which would place him in that upper circle

I think he’s unbeaten, closest he came to a loss was Derevyanchenko IMO. Even then, NO! His era was very poor and I get that’s not his fault but the only three fighters who were good/very good he fought IMO was Canelo, Derevyanchenko, Jacobs and I think a great fighter does far better, would be far more dominant vs. those three.

I couldn’t see a case for top 20 for GGG. The division is deep. He’s not not done enough to warrant being over Giardello, Tiger, Fullmer, Hopkins, Cerdan, Zale etc; IMO and these aren’t names you ever see in the top 5.

Yes and his record IMO should have maybe 1 draw and a victory over Canelo....he has the punching power of a top 5 the chin to match LaMotta and the skills to rival Hagler and the cold assassin patience of Monzon...he has been fighting top 10 fighters for 24 straight fights and has been the defending champion in all but a few.....defending the title a few times is hard the challenger is coming into the ring everytime for the shot of a lifetime at his best but fighting and beating them for years regardless of our opinion of the fighter doesnt matter every opponent the greats fought was not the best fighter of his era and certainly not in the murderers row talent.....Monzon had a lot of pro fights and had he not been so consistent would he have been top 5? GGG has been consistent in 390 amateur fights and now 43 professional fights....this is a special fighter a reincarnated MMH IMO

Same. H2H I think he gives anybody at MW a tough fight. Top 5? No. Top 10? Maybe.

I think he is a top 5 Middleweight but a victim of the era he fought in. The guy would be a handful for anyone with his combination of Power, chin and boxing IQ. He has the same issue that a lot of fighter's from the last decade or so have. The sport simply isn't mainstream popular anymore so folks that don't know boxing think that means they are inferior somehow. GGG, Uysk, Crawford and Canelo are the goods and would be if they fought back in the 40's or the 60's. I'm sure I'm going to catch hell from the classic forum dudes that don't even watch the sport anymore but I don't care. GGG could compete with anyone at 160.
