RJJ dominant UD with speed and avoids any prolonged exchanges. Galindez is tough as nails and crafty but several notches slower in the hand spend and footwork department.
Galindez was a real tough and relentless champion. I'd take RJJ all day in the skills department but I feel that there's a chance for Victor to walk through fire and stop him late. I wouldn't put money on it but it's possible.
One of the things I have really enjoyed since joining this forum is that there are questions that challenge my memory. I almost always have a gut reaction to a question but I check places like BoxRec to verify my thoughts. In this case I was very wrong. My initial reaction was that Jones would go through Galindez without a problem. Even though I was a boxing fan in the 1970s I had forgotten how good Galindez was. Galindez defeated a lot of high quality fighters. He beat Eddie Mustafa Muhanmad, Yaqui Lopez, Richie Kates, Jorge Ahumada, Len Hutchins and others. Nevertheless, RJJ is still a couple of levels ahead of Galindez. While Galindez would make him work work each round, I'll go with Jones, 11 rounds to 4.
Good post, Victor Galindez had longevity as champion while Roy Jones Jr mysteriously turned into Benjamin Button going forward at a high rate of speed (he aged too fast) while Victor Galindez did not.
Jones actually had the longer championship career Rich, by a country mile. He actually went 15 years with only the disqualification loss that was brutally avenged. He was 35yo by the time he fell from grace. Galindez was 29yo when he lost to Rossman before briefly regaining then losing a few times and retiring for good at 31. People don't realise just how impressive Jones longevity actually was. He fell from grace very steeply but many other greats had walked off into the sunset at that point. He was also jumping divisions his whole career.
Jones on points. Gakindez was a very hand counter puncher, and even though timing beats speed, Jones had both timing and speed, in abundance. Galindez would no doubt make it a rough few rounds at times, but by and large Jones should take this.
As impressive as Roy was, I think he loses this one late. I think Victor would walk through fire and brimstone to take a 14th round TKO. If it's a 12 rounder, Jones wins a UD.
This is the other side of the coin in this fight. Roy would dominate with his speed but at light heavyweight there's a nagging suspicion that if this goes into the later rounds, a 15 rounder, Roy could be caught . More than likely Roy stops him on cuts but the possibility is always there. Roy was a fantastic talent but I have a hard time seeing him with wins over some of the all time great light heavyweights, Galindez while good, was not an ATG.
