Creating My Own Top 100 Hardest P4P Punchers List

Would you say Hide, Williams and Bailey knocked out better opponents tho? When you drop in such resumes there are dozens of guys that come to prominence. The likes of Zamora, Garza, the well proven Cuevas and so many more leap into calculations. If we are going this thin i'd have Lionel Butler ahead of Hide. He has plenty of that word of mouth that impresses you and could obviously bang.

 

I'd swap out Duran for Wilder. Cuevas also belongs very high on the list.

I'd put Dempsey much lower.

Some other names to consider are Tua, Zamora, Zarate, and Valero.

 

Liston would easily make my 30. He'd be ahead of Duran for starters for me not to mention Marshall and others I've already mentioned. Personally i have a lot of love for Spinks at 175, he had ginormous power in both hands and it can be seen on film against credible opponents.

Saad had big power yet both Vonzell and Marvin Johnson and Yaqui Lopez chose Michael Spinks above him as did Murray Sutherland who said "He was way ahead of Saad". We are talking an ATG puncher here.

This is REALLY interesting, I had no idea! But I'm not too surprised, Michael had one hell of a shot.

I wonder would Mustafa Muhammad would say on that point.

I'm also a huge fan of Michael at 175, loved all those fighters of that era and weight.

 

Don't know about Dempsey putting lower. I think Zarate's punching power is overrated, an accumulation puncher at best. I don't think highly of Valero either.

What makes things more interesting is.. Murray Sutherland fought Hearns.

 

Cool project. Just from going over your list, some names that I think deserve to be added are Liston, Zamora and Ketchel.

Eddie says Hart but Eddie demolished Hart while Spinks not only took his title but put him on the floor as well. We can possibly read a bit into that.

 

That shot Saad Muhammad hit Eddie with was a cracking one as well. But EMM didn't seem terribly phased by it.

Yes, I LOVED Johnson, Lopez, Saad, Eddie, Michael...that for me was the greatest light-heavy era, so exciting. I was crushed with Qawi won the title, especially when he beat Saad twice. But Qawi was a really good light heavy, too. It seemed the end of SUCH an era.

Just wanna tell you guys that Vito Antuofermo also said Hart hit the hardest.

 

Sutherland said Hearns was a powerful middleweight puncher but hinted the top light heavyweight punchers are a bit above. Not surprising given he fought the likes of Spinks x 2 and Saad. An ex welterweight bomber is never going to punch as hard as that at 175 tho Hearns certainly punched plenty hard there.

Hearns staggered Sutherland at least twice in their fight. Alex Ramos, a hugely touted amateur boxer/bomber who failed to fulfill his promise in the pro's actually managed to sit Murray on his ass. Ramos would have won if not giving away multiple rounds for low blows.

And just for bonus points Sutherland rang Hearns for advice how to fight Ernie Singletary when he challenged him for the IBF 168 strap. Hearns advice was not to try and knock him out as he did and it only resulted in hurting his hands. That's some chin Ernie had.

 

Yes Hart can hit and I've seen the Mustafa vs Hart fight. We've seen the KD of Saad over Eddie on film and Eddie also threatens to take Saad out later in the fight as well.

The thing is Hart was hitting at 160 against EMM and Vito. Huge puncher at 160.

 

Edit - sorry i didn't read and thought it was the Spinks shot LOL

Eddie's left eye was shut and his right eye from memory swollen and Spinks caught a weight drained Eddie with that bomb that late in the fight yet he did indeed get up quite calmly which was a helluva feat really given he would not have seen it.
