Why does everyone make excuses when the favourite loses? In hindsight, this was a case of Yarde putting in an E- performance in the first fight, because of all of the family bereavements he suffered in 2020. He wasn’t in the right mental state to be in the ring. We saw the real Yarde in there last night.
Tbf to Lyndon, that nonchalant and far too relaxed attitude he has naturally was no different last night. That's just his personality and "how he always is" However I think he did also did carry an extra air of giving up in that fight. I was quite surprised in Lyndons ability to not hold and tie yarde up in the close range, it was like he resigned himself to the inevitable. Quite a bit of an odd performance from Lyndon and maybe Pat Barrett too
I think in hindsight it shows just how much Yarde did hurt him at the end of that last fight. Lyndon didn’t want the rematch, I (like others) thought he was in the right because he was the victor and Yarde was getting it all his way. Looking back he was clearly hurt and didn’t fancy it again. From that first bell he didn’t want to be in there, he knew Yarde could and would hurt him.
Is the 2nd paragraph not making excuses when the favourite lost? But definitely agree, that was the real yarde, him against either Smith or Johnson will be a cracking fight
No shame in losing to Yarde but would have been nice to see him fight on and actually try and weather the storm. Didn’t look like he cared when it was waved off.
Didn't like the way he was talking pre fight. Had defeat on his mind and was talking about getting KOed.
Easy looking back but he was very unimpressive against Emanuelle Anim fairly sure he might have lost to a lot of people and was hardly setting the world alight against Faraci. Perhaps the yarde fight 1st time was the perfect storm
He's barred from Manchester after that performance. If he had any shame he'd already be in hibernation somewhere. As Bernard Manning would say; This content is protected
He looked drained to me. Dwarfed Yarde. Think it was the pressure that got to him. Hopefully he recovers and cleans up domestically, want him to make money.
Fair opinion of an observation. I think there's a fair amount of truth in what your suggesting. Good post!
Happened to catch up on Bunce's BBC podcast this morning which was the preview for Arthur-Yarde. Arthur sounded totally arrogant in the run-up, almost offended that he'd have to take the rematch. There was a hint of doubt there, when he said something like "Yarde will gas and I'll knock him out... or maybe I won't" which maybe gave the game away a little bit; he didn't appear to have much confidence when Yarde stuck it on him.
