The qualification to your observation is obviously how many heavy champs sustained extremely bad cuts in title defences? Apart from Jeffries v Fitz2 ,and Marciano vCharles 2,I cant think of another, can you?
You're absolutely right ! I would not pick anyone to beat Vitali via tko on cuts. Now please explain because you avoided answering , what that has to do with the my question, "if Vitali had been champion and Lewis the challenger would their fight have been allowed to continue indefinitely purely because Vitali was the reining champ? Nobody ever took anything from me when I was growing up the reaction from me would not have been worth it for them. ps One of my closest lifelong friends is Italian name of Rossi and owns an Ice Cream factory. Would you like me to give you a heads up as to which thread I will be posting on next ,just to save you searching, you understand.lol
Soooo do I , Tucker !! really ? seems to me selling a great and undefeated HW champ short to state that he would lose to Tucker, not having that my friend. keep well.
I answered with. Yes. As in yes the fight would have been stopped most likely. I’m glad an Italian didn’t take your lunch money. Did they do anything else to you? Maybe touched your inappropriately? Italian broad dump you? You don’t like short people? Just trying to find the root of the problem
You seem to have a rather unhealthy obssesion where sex and myself are concerned, should I be at all worried about this? I have a son in Italy, the result of a beautiful liason over 40 years ago his name is Gianfranco and I sincerely hope he has turned out to be a better .more rounded, maturer man than you. I'm short myself about 5 feet 8. Would you like to know more? Prime weight was 160/168lbs sadly appreciably over that now ,71 inch reach, hazel eyes brown/grey hair ,what's left of it. Will that suffice or would you like a photo? No offence ,but I don't think this is an appropriate place for your searching personal enquiries. No harm done this time as this thread of mine appears to have run its course.
you are missing out a lot of other incidents here. You don’t think Tyson Fury could have been stopped by Otto Wallin? No way could Fury have continued had he not been the linear champ. I am not saying I would have stopped these fights, but if you ask yourself if you have seen outclassed fighters stopped with smaller injuries. Absolutely yes. Larry Holmes had a pretty deep cut against Bonecrusher Smith. It was kept under control until Bonecrusher developed a worse cut. But Larrys cut was bad enough to get a challenger stopped. Evander Holyfield had a bad cut against Larry Holmes. Like Larry vs Smith, Evander was winning and the fight was too important to stop. Andy Ruiz also continued with a cut that would have got a challenger stopped when he defended against Joshua in the rematch. How many challengers are allowed to finish with as bad a cut? Defending HW Champs don’t get stopped on cuts. It all makes for a wonderful story to say that the champ was going to get stopped, but look at the history books show us. It can’t happen. A referee would never work again in a big fight. They are there to stop challengers on cuts. never the champion. They will count over the champion. Little else.
Yeah Tucker couldn’t beat Orlin Norris. That guy had Tuckers number and he had the same reach as Marciano.
Sharkey Buonanno was the house referee in Rhode Island. He refereed at least five or six of Marcianos fights, was likely a fan of Rockys by the time skehans book came out since Marciano was the one guy he refereed who went on to become a great champion. If he said Rocky could have been stopped that’s Bounannos big moment isn’t it? …and against Keane Simmons, a non title fight maybe Rocky really was more at risk of being stopped than in his championship run. Who knows? But Rocky, as the ticket seller, was the house fighter there wasn’t he? Isn’t That how you say, In a learning fight, Rocky most likely got the first result against Tiger Lowrey ? I wonder how many seats Simmons or Lowrey sold in their fights against Rocky? How often do we ever see the house fighter get stopped on a cut in a main event? About as many times as we see bearded Ring Card Girls with hairy armpits.
Napoles v Backus. Cooper v Clay. Minter v Hagler. Minter v Harris. Stracey v Jackson. Finnegan v Schmidtke. Cooper v Bacillieri.
What difference does that make? It’s the same for him. Was Berl going to risk his reputation to become the only referee in heavyweight history to really stop the HW champion on a cut? Was he really going to give it to Charles while Rocky was still in the fight? He’s still punching. I don’t think so. Without Rocky being utterly helpless I think it’s folklore to say the ref really was going to stop it in the next round. It was a terrible cut.. A cut that some corners might not have stopped the bleeding as well as Rockys corner did, a cut that some fighters couldn’t have continued with..But while Rocky was still swinging and the blood flow was under control.. Absolutely Not.
