What's your Opinion Of David Tua?

Had he been active in a weaker era, say the 50's he would more celebrated today ,imo.

 

Big puncher. Good contender for a few years.
Very limited by his height and reach.
Slowed down by too much bulk.

 

After the Ibeabuchi fight he wasn't the same, he got bigger which made him slower and lazier but of course he always had the power to change the situation. Could of been a World Champion in another era but would never dominate.

 

Actually speaking about the Ibeabuchi fight the last time I watched it I scored it for Tua but I haven't seen it in a while. I will say I don't think there's many if any heavyweights in history that could of stopped Tua inside the distance too.

 

A great fighter that had all the tools to become a champion, but often underchieved due to lack of discipline and laziness outside the ring.

 

He had talent and major power, chin, and had guts but he wasn’t a great trainer and that held him back. Would beat a lot of guys in the era since his prime. Probably not Fury or the Klitshckos, but Joshua, Wilder etc; yeah.

 

I would not call him a "great fighter," but we all have our own definition of that .

 

A career of unfulfilled potential.

He started off promisingly enough, and fought all the other dangerous up and coming contenders, having the better of the entanglements.

When he hits the absolute elite level, then something goes wrong, and he basically loses all the big ones.

He probably never had the work ethic to make the most of his style, but for all that he was clearly a victim of bad management.

A fighter with his level of ability, probably should at least have held a belt at some point, even without a great work ethic.

Is it possible to pick a point in the timeline, where he could have beaten the champion?

No doubt.

Personally I think that it would be a rash person, who picked him over somebody who was the best in the world, at any point in the timeline.

 

He would’ve murdered Morrison, Seldon, and Moorer in the mid 90s. Ditto shot Bowe and peak Golota.

Side note: The Ibeabuchi fight shows how limited Ike was imo. If he could’ve jabbed and moved, he would’ve won convincingly without taking the damage. I had Tua edging it.

 

Good fighter, very dangerous one. Unfortunately, extremely overrated on this board.
