Shanny at World Championship level will be headlining any PPV with Benn supporting the card

I'd be surprised if AB can make 147 now tbh. His heart is obviously not in boxing atm.

It's not anti-Matchroom, it's just anti the current crop of Matchroom fighters. I got swept along in the early wave of Matchroom shows - Froch, Brook, Crolla, the Smiths, Joshua - even Bellew was an enjoyable career-end.

There's just something about their recent attitude and the current stable that's off-putting - far too over-confident without anything to back it up. They're ruining Warrington, ruined Galahad, Babic is a clown, Courtenay just awful and Joshua is a parody of himself. Benn is making himself sound like Willie Pep after a few set-up fights.

If Benn's career had run along as chief support for a while, with the same results and a bit more humility, rather than his "PPV baby" garbage and calling for "big fights" as long as he's just about guaranteed to with them, a lot more people would be on the bus with him.

Have to say in hindsight, I also got swept along by the Hamed run in the 90s and enjoyed the attitude and marketing which was similar to Benn's now. I was 25 years younger though so maybe it's a generational thing that I can't bear it these days.

I don't disagree with any of this.

But for tonight, I'm happy to enjoy that for what it was - a very solid performance and well executed plan against an admittedly past it opponent.

Very happy to join you in critics corner if he does wind up facing another past it veteran next time out.

He's coming for the American fighters. He wants respect. He wants to face all them all. Mayweather included. Mayweather Sr that is.

Same for me. Not ‘anti Matchroom’ but it just so happens that almost every boxer in the Matchroom UK stable is an absolute bellend. Benn, Fowler, Whyte, Chisora, Courtenay etc. A few years back when they had

Matchroom reinvented British boxing for a while from the early 2010’s as said - the shows they put on were great - but the last few years they’ve become unbearable and the Matchroom narrative is almost a parody of itself these days.

What annoys me is how they’ve put themselves on some kind of pedestal with the ‘we’re on a different level to any other promoter’ yet their stable is as bad as ever. A few years ago they had Froch, Brook, Campbell, Crolla, Bellew... Groves boxed on a few Matchroom shows, Frampton v Quigg etc. Now they’ve got Benn, Bridges and Babic.

Benn is better than i ever thought he would be originally. It was a very good performance. But as mentioned it was not against any of the top guys. He and his team aiming for at least 2 more faded names like Brook, Khan and Broner.

Like I said, I'm not trying to make out Benn is Canelo. But I clearly remember watching Canelo fighting absolute bozos when he was only 20 fights into his career.

Ffs Marvin Hagler had about 40 fights before he got a world title. So why should there be such a rush with Benn?

He hasn't had any amateur experience, he's learning on the job, he's clearly progressing at a very fast rate. Jesus Christ, give the guy a break, he's great to watch, talks alot of ****.

    What's not to like

Kelly can’t make 147 anymore. He is also with Boxxer and not Matchroom.

If Benn wants to fight another Brit, it should be Mckinson.

Bellew called out a cracker by Andy Lee about Ennis and Ortiz. Bellew would put him in with anyone outside Crawford amd Spence. But when Andy Lee mentioned those two he was backtracking big time saying he wouldn't consider those fights and that he was talking of fights Benn has been linked with.

As I wrote before the fight: Conor Benn wins easily within 5-6 rounds and it came to fit very well. Having said that, I think it was a good performance by Conor Benn.
