What do you guys think about WBC making a new division, Bridgerweight. Essentially a weight division between cruiserweight and heavyweight?
17 weight divisions is a lot and now they're trying to make an 18th one...

A bit late for this party, ain't ya? :sisi1 It was announced over a year ago, with the first match happening eight months ago with Óscar Rivas vs. Ryan Rozicki for the inaugural championship itself taking place over eight weeks ago.

Did you somehow just hear about this or something?

Yup. And the fact that I haven't seen any high profile fights in this division as well. Or not that I know of at least. Is this even a recognized division as a whole in boxing? Aside from WBC trying to make more sanctioning fee money?

Wait and see type situation. WBC has obviously invested time and money into making it stick. Thus far nobody else has acknowledged it, but...again, they literally only just crowned their inaugural titlist. Nobody in the mainstream boxing media accepted cruiser when it was just a few months old, either.

Embarrassing, especially since one of the top heavyweights is under the Bridger limit usually

Even more embarrassing then it originally was now that Usyk easily destroyed Joshua. I hope everyone ignores it and it goes away.

I don't know why WBC didn't just call it the Heavyweight Lite division -- a veritable graveyard for Heavyweights in the 200.1lbs to 224lbs range who aren't good enough to beat the Super Heavyweights or put themselves in contention for paydays against the Heavyweight titleholders. To this end, I fully expect Michael Hunter to join the Heavyweight Lite division soon.

Hunter has given different answers about competing there. Its just going to dilude the talent from cruiser and heavyweight, which I fully expect the IBF and WBA to follow.

I think it’s a wonderful idea. However, boxing sucks and there is no oversight, so it’s not a real division until the other sanctioning bodies recognize it.

It's garbage, just like most of the super/junior classes.

I hate it, but not as much as most others. It is dumb and unnecessary, but the silver lining is that it gives guys like Romanov and Rivas, who otherwise would would be squeezed out, a chance at a career.

    Still, it is dumb.
