Maybe it needs a new title this thread. It’s very interesting. Actually proves what many have been thinking and why boxing could be better today with better management of the top

Don't think we have the 60's either, I'm off to do 1890-00.

I don't know. One poster is using his own ratings for the 1900s and 1910s where there aren't Ring ratings, which has nothing to do with anything.

And you guys are acting like one month in the Ring ratings is the equivalent of 12 months.

People actually do appear in the ratings during the year and fight people who are also in the top 10. Like Andy Ruiz wasn't rated in the top 10 before he fought Joshua the first time, but they were the #3 and #4 contenders when they fought the second time, but you don't include that because Ruiz wasn't rated in the top 10 the year ending the previous year. Quarry wasn't rated at the end of 1966 but he was ranked when he and Patterson fought a second time in 1967. So what sense does that make?

It seems like a mess. If you're going to see which rated fighters fought which rated fighters based on Ring Ratings, use the whole 12 months, not just one month out of the year.

The 70's hasn't been completed. For pre-ring the 1890s and 1880s haven't been done either.

Great work though, that's an impressive amount of data. and I'll definitely graph it once the gaps are filled in.

Edit: Since I was wrong about the first part of the 1920s not being done I've add that in.

Edit: Ok added in that gaps Buk and Matt filled in.

Matt did 1920-24 in post #24.

If no one else wants to complete the 70s, I'll take a stab at it - tomorrow!

I disagree. Every year is held by the same standards. To go through every month would be an extremely painstaking task. I also don’t think it changes the overall theme…but it’s not my thread anyway
