Golota (was heavily gassed up by the boxing elitists at the time, considered skilled, crazy, and highly dangerous)

Vitali (Lewis fought the young, hungry version who hadn't become a cautious boxer yet, and was still willing to mix it up)

Tua (my have conceded all the physical advantage to Lewis, but he had monster power to end fights in the late rounds, and he earned his shot)

Michael Grant (say what you like now, but again, at the time the boxing elites were gassing him up as the heir apparent, prototype HW )

Ray Mercer (not sure if this was "prime" Mercer, but it was one of the better versions of a damn good, yet inconsistent fighter)

I'm sure theres more, just havent thought of them yet...

Someone mentioned Briggs, hes probably not on anyone's all time list, but Lewis faced the best version of him

That's the main knock against Lewis, a lot of his best opponents were long in the tooth.

    He fought bums mainly.

    That's about right.
Except Mercer might have been a few fights over the hill.

Roddock was never the same after the two Tyson fights
Golota had PTSD from the Bowe fights
    Rahman splattered Lewis
Morrison was depleted from drink , drugs and aids

All the more impressive on Lewis's part, then.

Somehow I get the feeling you know full well that doesn't mean ****. We're talking in the ring, and Lewis never convincingly beat Bowe in the amateurs, much less pro.

    Yes and no.

When we are talking legacy, it helps when the other guy trashes a belt to duck you. Same way we give Wills credit for Dempsey avoiding him.
