Smoger for me. Frank Cappuccino is a close second. Both guys let fighters fight and never had a serious injury on their watch.

Yup both just stayed out of the way and let them fight, they were not trying to be the star of the show like other referees.

    LOL.

And there I was about to type in human activist, Ollie Pecord.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would’ve been had he NOT declined the Johnson - Jeffries fight. He was too busy investigating the existence of “Fairies” I believe.

    Otherwise, Jack Welch?

Made a clutch call on a “double knock out”.

Wolgast to Rivers’ groin, Rivers to Wolgast’s chin. Rivers goes down first, then Wolgast, seconds later, landing on top of Rivers.

Everyone loves a man of decision, so Welch hauls up Wolgast and starts a count on Rivers. The bell prevents a full 10 count, but fight awarded via TKO to Wolgast since Rivers is still coughing up his nuts.

Some of the best referees are those you don’t necessarily remember.

Cappuccino is the first name that came to mind for me. Not the most famous largely because he stayed out of the way. Yet I don’t ever recall a bad stoppage by him nor a fight he let get out of control.

Belt Line Stuff!!!! Ward's punches were deliberate they were landing on the Advert on Kov's trunks which was directly over his testes. The foul line making it a low blow is the opponents navel. I doubt Kovs navel is situated that low he'd be deformed if it was !!! Ward is, was a dirty fighter those punches rivaled anything Golota threw.
They must given Weekes a nice brown envelope for him to have looked the other way all fight long

Nah. Kovalev was supposed to be a cold hearted, feared killer. Those same people crying foul now were proclaiming Kovalev by brutal KO. Ward just went out their and bullied him and took his soul. Had nothing to do with some low blow. Even if weeks had docked a point Kovalev still would have folded

    Beat me to it.
Don’t think I’ve seen a better referee than Harry Gibbs.

Mills Lane and Steve Smoger are all time great for me. Same with Mickey Vann from the other side of the pond as this thread is pretty US heavy.

Not the greatest but I did see Steve Willis make some fantastic calls with regards to fighter safety.

ROFL I think I can see why this guy got booted hes got no idea. all 3 punches in that final barrage were FOULS!!!! ward never got one warning except in the first round when Weekes said '' Keep em up Andre" on a borderline punch. he was obviously told to look the other way. disgusting officiating & blatant fouling both Ward & Weekes were guilty

I don't think Henry Cooper would agree with you. Gibbs robbed
    Henry blind against Bugner.

How? I thought he was a referee not a judge?
