Wilder/Grant is 50/50. Wilder wouldn't be able to take Grant's right hand either.

I think Lewis beat the best version of Ray Mercer. Ray trained his tail off for Lewis and he had improved his boxing skills a little since Larry Holmes had exposed him.
That Mercer/Lewis was a helluva fight. Fast pace, some close rounds, both guys absorbing big punches. It shows so much of taking a punch is mental. Lewis chin was solid when he was focused and trained.

I think Mercer looked a bit fat against Lewis, and I think it effected him down the stretch a little.
He was probably a bit better against Holyfield the previous year.

    Don't be naive
Boxing isn't just about skill, ask Foreman etc.
Brute force is also a huge part of HWs.

Lewis and Holy both fought in 84, Holy had just beat Moorer and was in good form.
That said Vitali had good skills and Lewis forced him to go caveman and Lewis butchered him.

    You're a trolling nitpicker.

    I agree.
Ray was on form and had learned to properly box

There seem to be 3 or 4 "new" trolls on this forum lately. Suddenly posting a lot from accounts that have laid dormant for years.

I think people have unrealistic expectations of Heavyweights. I also think people are overly nostalgic about fighters the further you delve into history.

Lewis' longevity, ability to reinvent himself, his consistency, and quality of his performances (regardless of any evaluation of his opponents) shows how remarkable he was.

Not commenting on the gentelman you are responding to, per se. But I just felt your point was very well made, and we all should have some distance in these discussions.

I think Mercer never really could get himself into great shape. Being that big, it's hard. And the way Boxing was adapting to new forms of training, suddenly the stuff he was raised on was being reevaluated.
Either way, the dude was a tank. And you gotta love his spirit, all heart and nasty. He really brought it against Lewis, and maybe just the fact that he was operating at a level higher than he was accustomed to caught up with him. Lewis, to his credit, didn't fold like one might expect.

I really feel Ray was denied in his career opus. Competitive fight, but one I can never score for Lewis.

Well said, but a smaller more limited man put him on the back foot.

I am starting to get uncomfortable with my part in this discussion criticizing Lewis. I think he was amazing, even if flawed. And we should respect what he achieved.

Personally, I had him losing the Mercer fight. And I think it's a litmus for how Lewis would handle other hard hitting/high pressure Heavyweights, like Foreman, prime Vitali, Usyk, Wilder and Fury. In those hypothetical matches, I suspect he doesn't fair well.

But at the end of the day, those are simply hypotheticals, and all we have to judge Lewis on was a great, if imperfect, career.

Grant doesn't even stand a 50-50 chance against Breazeale. He'd be out-classed by Ortiz.

When has he been stopped by a Rahman or a Cooper?

Bwahahahahahahahaha!!?!?!? Did you mean to do that?

Dude, you posted a video of Lewis KO'ing Tommy Gunn.

Edit your post and resubmit the clip you mean to add. Surely, you didn't mean the say the Toughman Competitor KO'd by Bentt is better than a 6'6" 240 lb. Cuban national champion. And Wilder didn't get a standing TKO victory, he damn near killed that man with a single punch.

If chubby little wild swinger Ray Mercer can put Lewis on his back foot, and Rahman can spark him... you know Lewis ain't fighting Ortiz. Remember how Lewis remained in the amateurs to delay running into Tyson? Remember how he high-tailed it from the sport to avoid rematching Vitali?

But that's neither here nor there, you need to edit your post.

Ortiz is not 6'6, his resume is abysmal, Deontay Wilder is a one trick pony with an abysmal resume as well and you're an idiot. It's clear you have an extra chromosome and need some assistance however i find your trolling ridiculously amusing and ridiculous stupid so I'll let you keep doing your thing

    You think highly of Ortiz

Give me his top 3 wins
