Crawford started as a Lightweight and is currently a welterweight but looks as big if not bigger than some of the natural welterweights.

There are also rumors of Crawford weighing around 170 naturally. So wtf was he doing starting at lightweight? He seems to be a bigger weight bully than even Spence.

The problem with these dummies is they should all be fighting at their natural weight. If you are 170 you should fight at 168. Dehydrated to an artificial weight makes you weaker with less punching power and chin resistance

A couple of different things firstly if you start young then you will be a lot skinnier and put weight on as you get older and fill out.

Secondly the modern fight game a lot of fighters are looking for an advantage so boiling down although a pain can give someone a clear advantage if they can rehydrate 15-20lbs.

So it's not just Crawford I would say a majority these days do it. In the old days people fought at there weight. So we always have to equate that when doing mythical H2H. As Canelo at 160lbs was closer to 180lb in the ring so you would match him against Light Heavies.

You would match him against light heavies, but today's light heavies are at least CWs so he would be fighting most of the same guys except at a higher weight.

What's dumb about the whole day before weigh in/boil down game is that everyone is playing it so we see the same fights we would have except everyone kneecaps themselves by dehydrating to near death right before.

In most athletic events they spend the days leading up to it doing the opposite.

Crawford is slim, over 5'9", belongs at WW but could fight at 154.

    He's like 5'8, 155 lbs..

I met Spence 3 years ago and Spence was 5'9 1/2 around 170

You did with some of the old school boxers who would have to put on weight to reach the lower threshold.

Yeah I think for the only way around it would be to weigh in before getting in the ring.

Even if we do the same day in the morning you will still get people trying to rehydrate over a shorter time frame creating perhaps greater health risks.

You get the odd one in boxing but I remember more clearly Frankie Edgar in MMA who fought at his own weight and he looked tiny compared to the other guys. he won the Ligtweight belt and had a good gas tank. It was crystal clear his opponents were 20 lb+ which is a lot at the lighter weights.

I think because the tools are there it's just expected now and it's more of a cultural thing.

So Crawford isn't the only one doing it but it's a bit weak to to me to do that.

    What do I know...

Ok so he walks around at 170....a fat, out of shape, 170. He should "cut" down to 168 and fight as a SMW?
    Not hardly.

147-154 should be his target range in which to fight.
