Mikey never actually tried to win vs Spence, he was just content to survive and hear the final bell.
He decided to cash out by taking a fight he wasn't expected to win rather than risking his 0 and being embarrassed by Lomachenko for less money.

 

I think he came to win and was confident he would. He thought he saw things in Spence he could exploit but as the fight started he soon realised he was in over his head and that Spence fundamentally was a better boxer than him. Survival instincts came during the fight to prevent him getting knocked out but in many ways the type of comprehensive beating Spence gave him is worse in my opinion. It was like Mayweather vs Marquez

Im not too sure about that. Mikey ate up to the weight to chase the payday and didn’t really show any ambition in the fight. Quite a shame really as there were good fights for him at 135 and 140 but he stepped up and went against the number one guy in the division, can’t fault him for that.

 

mikey thought spence was going to fight him exactly like he had fought everyone else up to that point. so did everyone else, if you go back and look at the pre fight talk. and thats coming straight at him and smashing the smaller man on the inside. instead, spence kept himself out of mikeys reach and beat him with his legs and length. like a great boxer would. spence never gave mikey the midrange, which is where he makes his money. mikey really tried, thats why he was chasing the bigger man throughout most of the fight. but spence never gave him the range he needed to be competitive. it was a great gameplan by team spence.
