12/17 in Tashkent on DAZN. WBA super welterweight championship eliminator. Madrimov is 7-0 (5) professionally and currently ranked #2 by the WBA. Soro is 5-0 (4) since his SD loss to Brian Castaño for the interim version of this same title, and is the WBA's current mandatory number one contender at 154lbs.

I'm torn - kind of a longtime fangirl of both guys. :nusenuse:

(...torn in terms of rooting interest, that is. As far as the result, I have a hard time seeing the Côte d'Ivoirean-Frenchman, as underrated as he is, getting the road upset in Uzbekistan if The Dream is as good as early returns indicate. That said, this IS a big step up in class...)

I have a bad feeling that Madrimov is going to get wrecked here. He looked really bad against Eric Walker, quite frankly at times, close to being stopped. The 7th and 8th rounds IIRC were pretty awful for Madrimov, his gas tank and punch resistance looked horrid. This is often forgotten in lieu of how terrible the ref was and how he blew the call, and didn't award Madrimov a KO victory. So if that wasn't just an off night, and a pattern with Madrimov, who gets hit way too much and isn't as slick as he think he is. I can see him walking into countless nasty counters from Soro and possibly getting KTFO, Kulakhmet style.

Yeah wouldn't be too upsetting if Soro pulled it off. Having a new exciting prospect is nice, but pales beside the satisfaction of seeing a guy like ol' Abou - turns out that what we thought was a nickname was actually his birth middle name all along, btw - finally net that elusive big career-defining statement W along with the gold to legitimize his years of living up to his catchphrase/nickname (which in French means "hard work pays off" :deal:)

Oh and I'm calling dibs on the RBR...even though I know CST also likes both these guys, the whole card is literally taking place smack within your sleepytime (11am-4pm EST) and you got both the Oriental wee man fights today. :sisi1

Soro got to be one of the most slept on guys of the last few years.

I know he is getting a bit long in the tooth but I think only took up boxing when he was around 19-20, so may well have plenty left to give.

Top fight this one and I would be honoured to follow the RBR whoever may facilitate it.

That was such a rough performance against Walker, not sure I saw his last fight.

I just don't want to feel like an idiot when Madrimov is back to his normal self and cruises past Soro who is coming off a full two years inactivity.

It was against Kalombo, and while not nearly as bad as his performance against Walker, it still left a lot to be desired.

This a cracking match up and a very dangerous one for Madrimov, especially so early in his career. Soro is an excellent fighter and a very spiteful puncher who is 12-1 (11 KOs) in his last 13 fights the loss being a SD to current WBO champ Castano who should be the current undisputed 154 champ and he lost that fight by a single point on two of the judge's cards. I've always liked Soro's style and I'd pick him to beat Jermello and almost everyone else in the top 10 on his day. A win here for Madrimov would be a huge statement as Soro is basically world champion level without a belt and a huge test for any 154 pounder let alone a seven fight novice albeit a very talented one like Madrimov.

Didn't realize he'd been out so long. That obviously works in Madrimov's favour

Soro vs. Castano was one of the worst Split Decisions EVER.

Soro won 2 rounds, maybe 3 at best.

It'll come down how much Madrimov is in shape - or not. He gassed a bit in his last two. If he gasses again he's in big trouble.

Picking Madrimov but Soro is live.

Good fight and BIG props to Team Madrimov for taking this fight at this point in his career.

Madrimov is the real deal, he wins this no problem.

The real potential upset is whether that Melikuziev kid loses to the Russian, it's at 175 too.
