What you leave out though is Lewis had already fought and won undisputed against Hollyfield and picked up Lineal when he beat Biggs. He lost everything to Rahman and then reclaimed it all in the rematch. So there were no questions left to be answered. Then after dropping the IBF fought Mike Tyson. In contrast Tyson Fury has a tenuous claim to Lineal at present and only holds the WBC title. Dropping the WBC belt would be the equivalent of what Bowe did, not Lewis.
Fury would not be afraid of Whyte if he could not punch. He has more skill than Wilder and I think we seen the best of Fury.
Fury must take the fight. A true champion does not duck mandatory. However, he is right to demand what within his rights and Hearn should understand this. Fury has right to demand 70:30 cut if they follow the WBC rules. EDIT (Apparently WBC has a certain rule which I am (and I believe many of us are) not aware of regarding the pot money between the actual champion and interim champion, which is 55:45 This is the basis of Hearn's demand. While I can understand that a boxer with status of interim champion deserves to get paid closer to equal pay, I can't help to think that WBC now selling their 'interim' title as well as their new status of official challenger. Anyway, as much as it hurts to see someone like Whyte is about to receive big, IMHO it is best for Fury to face Whyte under this condition. Because the WBC title he currently held is important for his showdown with Usyk in the future. I thank Lordlosh for the information he shared on WBC regulation of pot money)
Exactly Whyte is a Match Room manufactured guy so a star in his own mind. Realistically Fury is bigger than the belts at heavyweight he has won a version of each title so he doesn’t care and I don’t blame him.
I highly doubt Fury would vacate, he knows he’d be another Riddick Bowe in peoples eyes. He’s just posturing in the negotiations for whatever he’s trying to get. Plus the WBC title has more history then the others and as much as he says he doesn’t care about that stuff he does.
I am no longer interested in watching Tyson Fury fight. His litigations are infinitely more entertaining.
I didn't suggest Whyte shouldn't get a shot. The point is money. If Whyte really believed he will win, he'll avoid making the highest demands and concede a bit to Fury. If he's simply looking to cash himself in, he'll demand more, which might not make it worth Fury's while. I expect both sides will see sense and come up with reasonable figures.
Unlike most fools, Fury doesn't want to spoil Whyte and Hearn with money if he can help it, that's the whole issue. He also realises how corrupt they are and would likely be disgusted at the Povetkin ''rematch eliminator''. This is clearly a matter of principle and dislike from Fury's end. The idea Whyte is more dangerous than Wilder is laughable. Wilder has more speed, range, power, chin, endurance. Any skill advantage Whyte has doesn't make up for that list. Could Whyte beat Fury? Any HW can land a bomb and get an upset, so it's possible. But that doesn't mean Fury is scared of him or a big left hook. How ridiculous. He fought the biggest RH's in the game [Wlad,Wilder] four times total, and the biggest LH too in Wlad. He took clean hits in all four fights. He also challenged and fought one of the biggest punchers in Price at age 17 and got decked there. The myth of Fury being scared of power punchers is plainly absurd.
I disagree. By saying it's the equivalent of what Bowe did, you are effectively equating Whyte to 1992/'93 Lennox Lewis. That's insane. Beating Whyte would answer absolutely no questions of Fury in regards to his status as the real champion. It adds nothing in that area. If Fury was to absolutely refuse to fight Usyk, (or AJ if AJ beats Usyk), then there would be serious questions against his legacy. But Whyte has no impact on whether someone is to be regarded as lineal or legitimate champ or not.
Whyte is a greedy pig, should take the offer thats offered.. Believes too much of Eddie's koolaid ... 80-20 is fair considering...
