Spinks and it wouldn't be pretty. Until Ward low blowed and fouled his way through light heavy... Spinks was the only undefeated light heavyweight champion in boxing history. Something that can't be said about Tommy Loughran, John Henry Lewis, Billy Conn, Archie Moore, Bob Foster, or Roy Jones. In 101 years of crowning light heavyweight champion's, only one of them never tasted defeat while weighing 175 pounds, Michael Spinks. Spinks was also the first reigning light heavyweight champion to challenge and defeat the reigning heavyweight champion. Larry Holmes no less. Something past greats Billy Conn, Archie Moore, and Bob Foster all failed to do. Spinks the fighter was complete and could do it all. At 6' 2" Spinks was one of the biggest light heavyweight Champions in history. His fighting style is best described as being a boxer-puncher. He was a tremendous two handed puncher who could box and dictate with his jab and knew how to utilize his height and reach versus taller and shorter opponents. As he was forced to do in his Light Heavyweight unification bout with 5' 7" WBC Champ Dwight Muhammad Qawi, and against the 6' 6" hard hitting Gerry Cooney. His legacy was heavily tarnished by the one loss on his record: Mike Tyson. History should show that he was never off his feet prior and it took one of boxing’s hardest, fastest hitters ever to accomplish that knockdown and stoppage. In the last 16 fights of his career were all title fights in which he went 15-1, 11-0 at light heavyweight and 4-1 at heavyweight.
You watch Spinks in that Mike fight and he was terrified and beaten before putting on the robe in the room. If he faced AB in that state of mind he'd get knocked out, especially if hurt and didn't keep his defence tight as he did there. Betrbiev is no Tyson of course but has heavy hands.
The AB who knocked out Gvozdyk would do the same to Spinks. I’d also take Gvozdyk over Spinks. Beterbiev has looked slow over his last two fights but he did finish the bigger Browne in brutal fashion with his trademark body work. Spinks was a very good fighter and would win rounds, unless he crapped his pants like he did in the Tyson fight but would not hear the final bell. He was never a HW but his last fight as a pro tarnished my opinion of him forever. Beterbiev by highlight reel knockout.
Imagine comparing Beterbiev to prime Mike Tyson. Tyson slaughters both Beterbiev and Gvozdyk even quicker. Hell past it Cooney and past it Holmes would destroy them both. Because they are not heavyweights and have never faced anything of that level in the pros
I guarantee Beterbiev would not have been the coward Spinks was in that fight. I’ve never seen anything like it. Spinks had to change his drawers before he even stepped into the ring. Disgraceful performance.
That doesn't matter, that was Mike Tyson. Heart wont mean much when Beterbiev is punched to canvas in the first 10 seconds and wiped out. Just because he got destroyed by a elite quick handed power punching heavyweight who is arguably an ATG who was also known to intimidate other heavyweights doesn't mean he looses to Beterbiev who is a LHW. I guarantee the past it Cooney that Spinks fought would stand Beterbiev on his head It is a ridiculous comparison
Get someone to read it for you if you can’t read. I’ve never seen a champion fighter show that kind of fear walking into the ring. He was like a little *****. I’m not saying Beterbiev beats Tyson but he doesn’t ***** out like Spinks did. Beterbiev has some of the heaviest hands I’ve ever seen at LH. ***** Spinks would be shaking in his boots and filling his Depends the first time he felt that power. Spinks showed his lack of mental toughness that night. Beterbiev (the version that beat Gvoz) would pressure him and bully him. It wouldn’t be pretty and Spinks wouldn’t be on his feet when the fight ended.
Didn't make the comparison Mac, but since you are let's see young Mike go on a severe diet and face Beterbiev at 175 or even 185. That evens up the gig.
I would like to see Beterbiev fight a gatekeeper like Oscar Rivas at heavyweight like Spinks did against prime ATG Tyson
Spinks knees were both gone at that point and he avoided Tyson to build it as a payday, nothing more. Prime Spinks would still lose to Tyson mind you, just not to AB.
