Your Opinion Of George Foreman??

Absolutely love George Foreman. He had the power and intelligence to compete in any era including today. What I like most about him was how he overcame certain technical flaws and speed deficiencies and made the most out of his physical strengths.

In the Frazier fight he simply used his size and physical strength to overpower Frazier. Against Moorer who was much faster in both hand and foot speed, he used his intelligence to set MM up for that right hand. There is an part in the legendary night video where he talks about how he threw a left to the body to get MM to move to stop moving to his left so that he could land that 1, 2.

 

I don’t care if people claimed someone else hit harder…he was the hardest AFFECTIVE hitter to ever live in my eyes. You could see even as an old man everytime he touched you he hurt you. Top six heavy ever in my opinion

 

Foreman more than likely has a very long reign as heavyweight champion
if it wasn't for some guy from Louisville Ky. Their was no one on the
horizon that would've beaten him in my opinion. Holmes was a full
five years away, and I wouldn't like his chances against a focus ,
confident and in shape version of Foreman.
Especially with his susceptibility to overhand rights.
It's possible but not probable Foreman could've reigned until
Mike Tyson. I'm sure he probably gets upset by someone,
but whom would've been favored to beat him?
And Tyson, he matched up well against. All of Tyson's weaknesses
was a Foreman strength.
Other than hand and foot speed, Tyson's advantages were few.
It's not out of the question Foreman reigns for years, get
upset by someone, wins the championship again until the
late 80's early 90's.
Possibly the greatest heavyweight championship run in history.
If it wasn't for that guy from Louisville Ky............

LoL, Finally caught on to this. Since neither Page or Ellis fought Foreman.....
Hard to figure a connection other than place of birth, they were black,
and all were pro fighters.

 

George is a top 10 ATG for sure, probably a top 7 or 8 in terms of h2h.

I don't care what anyone says, his victory over undefeated unified WBA, IBF and lineal heavyweight titlist Michael Moorer was astounding. I remember being glued to my seat during the ko, tears welling up in my eyes. It was unprecedented, even an ATG whom is generally considered over him like Larry Holmes couldn't do that. NO one else could do it, and still can't do it to this very day.

His runovers of Frazier and Norton are not to be underestimated either, no one looked like that in that era. It was astonishing.

There's very few fighters I'd favor head to head with George Foreman, Ali, Holmes, and a fight with Liston would be a once in a hundred year war where I'd favor Sonny. Lot's of people like Lewis over George but Lennox wasn't a runner and George would cut the ring off and force Lewis to exchange. Top 5 all time and I believe Emanual Steward had him top 3

 

One of the most underrated and misunderstood boxers stylistically. Marvin Hagler tier underrated in technique department.

Historically one of the very greatest. Part of the magnificent five of the 70's and the man who, along Frazier and Norton, was quintessential in creating Ali's legend.

His comeback, though carefully managed, was inspirational. The way he adapted his style to compensate for age and his composure inside the ring was a thing to behold.

Prodigious natural strength and power like perhaps no one else. It's actually a bit weird how a very young Foreman ragdolled Chuvalo, one of the strongest fighters around at that time. And how roided young bucks like Morrison just bounced off him. He was freakish in that sense.

Not entirely sure he makes my top 10, though. I look mostly at what a fighter did during his prime and Big George was a bit spotty in that regard compared to other ATGs.
