    We could definitely do with getting some accepted definitions down tbf. Nobody can agree on what a journeyman actually is ffs.

    I'd say: never been in a reputable top ten rankings. And preferably lost all the fights they're supposed to have lost from a promotional perspective. Tracking that can be hard though.

    Cooper, Ferguson, Hipp & Cooper weren't journeymen? Also Chisora with 12 loses isn't a journeyman?

    Context needs to be applied. Is Ezzard Charles a journeyman coz he had 25 losses?

    Henry Cooper was a contender, Bert Cooper was a contender who faded into journeyman status with age, Ferguson was the same. Chisora was a contender too. A journeyman is somebody like Kevin Johnson, or Dustin Nichols.

    Hipp is the closest thing there to a journeyman but even he isn't somebody I'd regard as a journeyman, just a fighter.

    A journeyman is a fighter with adequate & basic boxing fundamentals, but is unable to excel & reach the top level. They also are fighters who never win major titles (atleast was the case before the modern era with multiply titles).

    You're right, I should have given a better context. Of course, Charles is one of the greatest LHW's of all time despite his many loses. Duran with 16 loses is still the greatest LW of all time. However these 2 accomplished great things by being the best in their division, winning titles in more than weight class & beating top opposition. Guys like Chisora & Co have done none of those things while still having multiple loses - which is why they're journeymen. They've only competed in one division yet have multiple loses.

    Hmmm, some journeyman have more than adequate and basic boxing skill and ability and can trouble much better fighters on any given day (Emmanuel Augustus springs to mind).

    I don't define journeyman by skill levels as skills and ability/opportunity to perform don't always match up.

    You're probably looking for guys who get paid to travel anywhere, fight anywhere, often at short notice, to give up and coming prospects honest rounds without posing too much threat. Sometimes, because of how often they fight and how little they're relatively paid, these guys are actually quite fundamentally sound as they need to be active to pay the bills.
