Well i like Beterbiev alot as you know it,but im realistic here Roy before heavy would beat AB easily with speed, reflex and footworks alone...but to be fair you have to put the best version of AB too if you want...anyway i don't like to speculate in the sorts of threads.imo
This. The answer is so obvious that the thread is nearly redundant. Nearly, but not quite. It did serve the purpose of eliciting a lengthy, indignant defence of Roy from @Loudon.
Beterbiev has no shot. Normally, in a one sided matchup where the slugger is on the bad side of the matchup he at least has a puncher's chance. In this case he would not have had much of a chance to hit prime Roy Jones with one of his power shots. On that note, I would not debate anyone who believes I am wrong but I think of Beterbiev as a man who pounds guys out with good combinations in which every punch has power. Not a chance he is hitting Jones with combinations on any kind of consistent basis.
Roy had a habit of spending too long on the ropes and letting guys wail away, that would be bad news against Artur who hits extremely hard on the inside to head and body.
If you’re talking about them both being super middleweights, then sure. Roy wasn’t exactly a knockout monster at light heavy, and far lesser fighters than Beterbiev went the rounds with him. Roy was from an era where he didn’t have to deal with much Soviet style boxing so it’s difficult to say how it would’ve went. I’d guess a 8-4, 9-3 type decision to Roy. I think he’d be able to use his feet and athleticism to avoid damage and outpoint Beterbiev. He’s not knocking Beterbiev out though, that honestly sounds ridiculous to me.
That’s fair, I tend to agree. Roy didn’t lose 25 pounds of muscle though, maybe 10 at a stretch. That’s still a lot, but remember what Roy walked around at.
