Would Crawford beat everyone Mayweather beat?

We've seen Crawford box more carefully when he puts his mind to it. We've seen him pitch a few shut-outs without taking many risks, and I think he'd take that approach against a much bigger fighter in Canelo. He's not going to trade with him.

Lara was defensive to the point it compromised his offense. Crawford is more complete.

 

Styles make fights right, I think Floyd's straight-line counter-punching is a little more vulnerable to jab-heavy pressure fighters. Crawford probably gets hit clean more often in those fights, but also fires back with harder punches against Cotto and Oscar.

Bud hasn't Lara's athleticism and jab. Also, he is slow starter. Canelo would murder him.

 

I think Crawford is about as athletic as Lara and has a great jab. Crawford is only an inch shorter and an inch shorter in reach.

If Crawford is a slow starter, 154 Canelo is a 12-round slug. I don't think Crawford pitches a shut-out, but he's a talented, durable, pound-for-pound talent with incredible skill. I think he could definitely outpoint a slightly green Canelo lacking offensive footwork and volume.

 

His destiny wouldn't be different than Trout or Lara. He would lose. Maybe decision maybe TKO but loss. I also favour prime Trout over him.

I didn't know Bud is Mayweather. Porter was making Bud miss badly with his mediocre head movement last time as far as I remember.

 

Buddy wouldn't have trouble with Ajax if he had Cortez as his ref. Last I saw Buddy give Ajax a retirement beating.

 

We’ll just agree to disagree, I just don’t see it. We can sit around and say Canelo was green, etc, but not much has change about Canelo’s style from then compare to now except that he’s been able to fight at higher classes now. Crawford still gets touched up even when he’s fighting smart. Benavides, Mean Machine, Brook, etc. Canelo’s timing, counter-punching, and accuracy would be enough to offset a less defensively responsible boxer in Terence Crawford.

 

We may not end up agreeing but I have to push back on the idea Canelo didn't change much. His basic style of being a counter-puncher may be the same, but his skills on the front foot vastly improved once he moved up to 160. I mean even just the first GGG fight to the 2nd shows a big difference. Younger Canelo would have struggled with Daniel Jacobs, instead he controlled the center of the ring and comfortably controlled the fight. BJS was treading water despite having the same qualities as Lara (plus more size).

Trout proved to be a good but not great fighter and gave Canelo fits with just a jab. Crawford's timing is somewhat reminiscent of Floyd in the way he keeps his eyes on an opponent and is aware of what's happening at all times. I find it strange that you at least don't think Crawford has a shot here. Canelo wasn't even a devastating puncher at 154 and Crawford isn't chinny at all. He may get touched but that doesn't mean he automatically loses.

 

Khan and Brook were shot to hell but Postol at 140 was a masterclass.
