Partly fair mate re the matchups and Liverpool / City comparisons, but I think your "reality" radar for boxing is off. Example - you say Joshua is like Derby. Derby are 44th ranked in English league football right now. Do you seriously think there's 40+ heavyweights better than Joshua? If so, who?
An example to show he is at a good level but not elite and never will be. Would add that Joshua winning his World Titles was like Derby winning the FA Cup when there were no Premier League teams entering that particular year. His 'Final' when he faced Charles Martin was like Derby v Oldham
That's fair enough. I'm interested where you see him now though. Top 10? Top 20? Lower? For me, he's still top 10 whose natural ability sees him past those outside the top 10. On a good day he's got the tools for a big result. Maybe more of an Arsenal or Leicester.
Mate, get over the Martin thing. Honestt to god, it was the smartest move ANY HW could have made, but never. People should have been queuing up for him. And that was before AJ won any world title. Yet Fury gets away with fighting Seffin AFTER dethroning Wlad. Have a word with yourself.
Joshua's Arsenal isnt he ? Or Spurs ? Joshua v Pulev is Arsenal v Everton. Joshua Uysk is Arsenal v Chelsea. Chisora is Burnley and Whyte is Leicester. Fury's Man Utd. is that strangling the metaphor enough ?
There are still many great nights left in AJ. Yes, he lost to Usyk, but AJ will still be a major player in the years to come.
Fighting once or twice a year at age 32 and with more money than most other UK boxers put together, there won't be that many.
Yes, and it was the smartest move Fury could have made to face Seferi (Seffin) having come off booze, drugs, obesity and inactivity - considering that he has remained undefeated and put in spectacular performances against Wilder, and has remained the Lineal Heavyweight Champion....... o' the wooooooooooooooooooooorld!
I think an important thing is to realize the boxing/PPV fanbase doesn't start and end with this forum. This is an extremely small echo chamber that makes people believe that the majority out there think the same. They don't, believe me. I have work colleagues that are not boxing fans but say things like "Chisora is a LEGEND!!, always brings war". I can't believe it but alas, that's what a vast majority of people think also.
I think 'vast majority' is very wide of the mark, but if you narrowed it down to a cohort of people interested in sport - the sort who follow LADBible clips on Facebook and so on - you're probably not far off. At this time of year I hear from people who have their annual 'darts' chat since it's on Sky every day; people don't watch it any other time. Sky's viewing figures bear out that darts is second only to the biggest football games for an audience. No doubt something similar happens with big boxing - friends of mine who won't go near the likes of IFL online or even pay attention to boxing interviews on Sky Sports News, will always tune in for Chisora.
I believe that AJ is an active boxer for at least another 4 - 5 years. Under normal circumstances, he usually boxes twice a year, but due to Covid 19, it will probably only be once a year until they have solved the covid problem. Still, there are many great nights left in AJ.
That's exactly what I mean. The vast majority don't watch IFL, they don't watch anything else, they don't have a clue about Boxrec and they think Algieri fought Pac a few months back. We greatly overestimate how informed the average punter is. Boxing just isn't a mainstream sport anymore in the UK
We will see how the Usyk rematch goes. If Usyk turns it up a notch as some believe he can, those "many great nights" in AJ's future might evaporate into the air. It's hard to say. Fighters have come back from worse but many have not.
He's had, what, 2 "great nights" in his 8 or 9 year career. One of them was a loss and the other was a life and death contest. What are the chances of more great nights, if he doesn't manage to beat Usyk? Probably unlikely.
