The thing is Lennox at first refused the rematch over the seriousness of the gash...he then said he would rematch if the surgeon Lennox trusted said the could be repaired without any detrimental effect to Vitali's future sight. Vitali saw the surgeon who okayed it & then Lennox retired.. ...unless there a reason that he had to retire that I haven't heard....if there was ok, but if someone like Mayweather can give Maidana a rematch & honour it then it leaves a bad taste as this not what you expect from Lewis ...surprised me...
You don't beat Lennox because he's retired. In both of his loses he was waved out on his feet and then he avenged both defeats. Wald didn't do that. Iron Mike didn't do that. He'd beat anybody active today in his prime. And he beat Vitali no matter what anybody says.
Lennox was the bigger, stronger man in his day. Nowadays there are a lot of skilled, athletic guys Lewis's size and bigger so I doubt he would be as successful.
