It's not a dead sport whats so ever

Bowls im fairly certain has less money in it but its a sport and one that its participant's earn the money the sports interest generates naturally

Boxing asks for more from casual and die hards to boost pension funds

@bbjc you like to talk a lot about the business of sport but don't seem to understand the basic economic underpinnings of particular sports.

Comparing football to boxing is a non-starter, because the ways in which money flows throughout each sport is totally different and that is due to the obvious differences in the way in which they operate.

Why compare boxing to football, when you could simply compare a Chisora PPV to a non PPV on the same platform, like a Smith vs Fowler card? Why is it that Smith or Fowler were happy to box on a non PPV? More importantly, and this is the part that I'd most like to hear your view on, how is it that the show was made possible? I didn't hear any concerns regarding how it would not be possible to go ahead without a further paywall.

Thats rubbish tbh mate. Who wants to run boxing when theres no money to be made. The truth is as we all know boxings big problem comes from the top. No real single organisation running it. Thats a problem that will likely never be solved.

From there if boxing only earns what it generates....theres a real lack of interest. You cant make broadcasters pay big money for little return. Or promoters put on shows again for little return. Why would they...to please 30 angry guys on a boxing forum.

Is Sky Sports free these days? Or is the platform still more expensive than DAZN?

Name me any darts player other than Phil Taylor or Michael van Gerwen to earn anything like £10 million? The pair of them have taken about £8m each in their entire career, and top it up with very healthy exhibition fees, but after tax, travel and expenses they're nowhere near that.

No other players get near them either. Most golf players other than the elite are nowhere near £40m net worth.

Your asking why smith and fowler we,re happy to fight not on ppv.
Just quickly looked up gary anderson....net worth. 4.5 million quid. For darts. Yet people was chisora getting his head punched in from klitchko, fury twice, whyte twice, parker twice, usyk and the rest for a net worth of 800,000. I know which one i and anyone thats not a complete idiot would rather do.

Think you,ll find golf players do actually have 40 million net worths...not just the very top names either. Tiger woods is sitting at 800 million net worth. Obviously hes a superstar...but a lot of names i,ve never heard of have net worths of 40 million. They should have went into boxing tho...good money to be made.

And, by the way, you're not going to find Gary Anderson's real net worth via Google.

I think we all know how dazn work. They run at massive losses till they overcome the market then eventually start to run a profit. Big deep pockets. Similar to netflix so i,ve been told. They operate in a worldwide market...and have a number of sports to attract buyers. Thats how they will one day be able to succeed.

No uk promoter is interested in that risk. To lose money on shows. No uk broadcaster was big enough to achieve that. I think dazn will suceed in the end. But to ask eddie and matchroom to do that off their own back or frank warren...its not happening. Why would you to please safin on a boxing forum

Think the same could be said for chisora or whyte. We cant be using google for one and not the other tho. Probably not the most accurate figure but i bet google wont be far off.

You think chisora and whyte is genuine but gary anderson is vastly overstated?

I didn't try to estimate any net worth.

    This doesn't answer the questions.

The questions are 1) How come Smith and Fowler are happy to box on a non PPV event, and 2) How come the event was able to go ahead? 3) What's the difference between Smith and Chisora?

Not sure where you’re getting figures from but there’s no way Chisora net worth is only £800,000

The 800,000 figure is a figure taking from what people on here think he should be earning. He has earned more than 800,000. I m comparing what other sports stars get in comparison to what people think chisora should get.

Less glamourous division. Chisoras also fought klitchko, parker twice, haye, whyte twice, usyk. Building up his profile. No one outside of the hardcore will know a single fighter fowlers fought. Outside of a beatdown from canelo very few people will know anyone smiths fought. Chisora wouldnt be making great money either if he wasnt fighting some of the biggest names at heavyweight. Thats how it works. You fight the biggest names you get paid more.

And dazn probably lost money putting that show on bearing in mind it was about 2 quid to subscribe. Think smith got 220,000 and fowler got 80,000 for that fight. 300,000 between them. Decent money for guys with relatively small profiles.

No one in the uk outside of dazn would pay 300,000 for that fight. Or they wont in the current market consistantly anyway. They,ve done the figures not enough people watch it to splash 300,000 on it continually.

That fight was able to be made because dazn operate at a loss in the hope they keep subscribers knowing that one day their profits will eventually gazump their losses.
