Vitali, never down in his career, lost about 8 rounds in total, wasn't a jab and grab artist and could find in the inside, had a cavallier attitude toward fighting...

Plus, Vitali is about 5cm taller and Wladimir can't rely on being bigger.

Vitali was great and it is a shame he was in a crap division at the time. Wladimir was a complete fart.

 

Wlad hid his glass chin well in his later years by jab and grabbing smaller, weaker opponents.

He wouldn’t have been able to do that against Vitali.

I think I agree with you. I always favored Vitali as a general rule but as you state I think the timeframe would be important as Vlad like Lewis before peaked later in his career. So prime for prime it becomes a matter of can Vlad control that distance and keep Vitali off him. I think I still have to edge with Vitali just with having the better gas tank and getting to Vlad in the Championship rounds. It would have been a great fight to watch though.

He is a natural fighter with a iron mandible and is all the power and reach to be matching up to Wlad.

Wladimir is the better boxer with the better career but Vitali beats him head to head on my opinion.

 

I always thought Vitali was the better fighter of the two even before they won titles and nothing has ever really changed my mind.

I remember reading somewhere that they did as amateurs but it got too competitive and so they stopped but I may be wrong
