    Valuev claims that he wouldn't sign with Vitali because the contract he was given called for a fight with Wlad if he beat Vitali and then another one with Vitali if he beat Wlad. H claimed they wanted to tie him him "for years" with Klitschko fights if he did well.

    Not saying it's true, but that is what Valuev said.

    It's not too surprising of a claim given how the k brothers would seem to want to avenge each other's losses before.

    I don’t know if it’s true either but I’ve heard that same stipulation thrown around over the years about Klitschko opponents.

    It is probably more a question of why he never faced them.

    They took unnecessary risks.

    He never fought anybody with a pulse, unless there was a belt on the line, or they were a mandatory.

    Its true becuase David Haye said he had to sign the same contract. It was ok for him because he knew he'd make millions from the Sky PPV on top of what he was earning from the split percentage.
    Valauev was only offered a flat rate of around 1.5 million

    Imagine if Valuev just came in like a gorilla and slaughtered them both in a HW “WAR” Hagler moment? He was durable and powerful enough to scare Wlad if he just went ape sh1t HIGHLY unlikely but a really entertaining thought.

    I think that part of the reason why Valuev Haye happened, is that they both found the contractual obligations imposed by the Klitschko's quite onerous.

    So basically the Klitschkos offered him a job and he turned it down.

    I think, generally, the boxer who has the promotional power lining himself up as the only beneficiary of a rematch clause is an acceptable abuse of power where there's a certain relationship between he and the challenger. I think most people would accept that, although unfortunate, it's acceptable. But "if you beat me twice you'll fight my brother" is ****ing weird.

    Furthermore, while a job offer is a reasonable way to describe it if it's disputable, it's totally unacceptable if it's not. Telling a guy he can fight for the title but you'll control your second defence, as well as his first, shouldn't be acceptable to anybody.

    Now maybe this never happened, never happened like he said and maybe he just saw it once and used it as an excuse to bin the whole thing, but tag-team negotiations was a part of the Klitschko method as I understand it, and it was wrong.

    Klitschko fought Chagaev because he failed the medical exam to rematch Valuev.

    Instead of facing Valeuv , Wlad chose to fight the sick patient instead.

    For that reason HBO declined to broadcast the bout.
