What if instead of meeting up in 1996, they did fight in 1991 for the title like they were supposed to before things got sidetracked for Mike to put it mildly.

Holyfield fresh off defeating Douglas for the title and then his first defense against Foreman and Tyson off his back to back victories over Razor Ruddock.

How does this fight go down?

I went with Evander by Ko. I know the brief struggle he had with Bert Cooper might suggest otherwise but I think holy was in his prime while Tyson’s dominant abilities were starting to diminish.

I don't disagree with most of what you say. However, Tyson's heavyweight prime was quite a bit better than Holyfield's and while he was starting to diminish I think that at the point he still was better than Evander. I will go with Tyson by KO in a fight he was losing ... until he wasn't.

Fair enough and I agree that Tyson winning COULD happen.

Would of been a much different fight in 1991. That doesn’t mean Tyson automatically wins, but the way the match unfolds is nothing like 1996. By 1996 Holyfield had 5 plus years of bodybuilding under his belt. He was so much stronger than the 1991 version at the same time Tyson had much more left in the tank in 91.
Holyfield strength was big difference in 96 he pushed Tyson around in every clinch. Both sapped his strength and messed with his mind. Then he countered out of the clinch when Tyson tried to re engage. I think Tyson wins in 91 a close decision

I've never had a strong gut feeling on how this fight would turn out, it's a shame it never happened at this point. On one hand you could say Holy had Mike's number and he had a style to trouble him. On the other hand, Evander was smaller in 91 than 96 and I don't think he could clinch and outmuscle Mike so easily. Tyson also seemed a bit more stable at that point.

Yeah I agree that it would be a very different fight. He wouldn't have been able to bully Tyson like he did.

But, the earlier version of Holyfield was faster, and still tough as nails. Less disciplined though, and more likely to brawl.

I don't know who'd win. Just that it would be great.

I'm picking Tyson by a hard fought decision possibly knocking Holyfield down a few times.

A very busy Holyfield wins a UD in an interesting fight. Mike lands some great punches but doesn't have enough bearing on Holy's perpetual darting to finish things. He looks real bad in the last two rounds.

Tyson in 91 was still in his prime despite his loss to Douglas. It was just an off night & Tyson quickly got back on track with 2 swift KO's over Tilman & Stewart. He also had 2 stellar performances over the dangerous No.2 ranked Ruddock. This motivated Tyson - who was looking to get his belts back & become 2x undisputed champion again, would stop a brave & courageous Holyfield who would do pretty well & win some rounds in a fairly competitive fight - but ultimately would be stopped between 7-10 by Tyson. It would be a top FOTY candidate.

I say Tyson is more likely. I guess he has the 1-2% more skill, speed, athleticism and routine that will make the small difference compared to the post prison Tyson. And i also think his daemons and his conflicts with himself, his environment, and the world were a little bit smaller at this time. I think he will hurt Evander several times and Evander just fights back...even after knockdowns. He really has to overcome really tough situations. I say it's a 55/45. With Round 8-9 stopage or close decision. For sure no easy early knockout...no 1 punch ko. But it can also go the other way....

I'll side with Holyfield tho not quite to the point i used to. Some good reasons mentioned already why Tyson would potentially do better.

I used to say Tyson would win, but I'm not so sure. Holyfield was a phenomenal boxer with a great chin, but unless he fought the right way, Tyson did hit hard enough to damage him in a blow for blow scrap.
