Did Floyd Mayweather fight anyone who could be called a top 100 fighter?

I prefer Corrales’ work at 130 to Hernandez’s. Hernandez beat Azumah when he was past it and wasn’t the dominant champion that Corrales was. Corrales was about 3 or 4 pfp when Floyd beat him. It’s not exactly fair to diminish Floyd’s win because of how easy he made it look.

I’m pretty sure Oscar deserves top 20 at 154. Boxrec doesn’t list him there, but they put Vargas at 21. Oscar’s win over Vargas, deserved win over Mosley, and wins over Castillejo, Campas and Mayorga are pretty solid.

He’d be a lock if were officially given the win over Mosley and it doesn’t feel right putting guys like Santos and Rosi ahead of him.

castillio was number 1 in the division when Floyd moved up if I remember rightly.

coralles I think was pound for pound number 3 or 5.

Mosley would have been as he had just beaten Margarito for the WBA I think.

Berto, Ortiz, cotto etc all of his opponents after say 20-0 woukd have been top 20 opponents.

    think mcgregor was top 1000

Canelo was nowhere the top 100 of all-time when Floyd fought him.

I think the initial question concerned whether the fighters would have been considered top 20 all time in their respective divisions at the time they fought Floyd, rather than simply being a top 20 contender at the time.

    But, your point's taken.

    Just among those mentioned...

    * Castillo was the consensus number one fighter at lightweight for sure.
    * At the end of 2000, just before they fought, Diego was #5 p4p, and Floyd was #7. The fight was considered a virtual pick 'em.
    * Mosley was listed at #3 p4p at the end of 2009.
    * Cotto wasn't p4p in 2012, but he was the #1 fighter at 154lbs.
    * Ortiz was WBC champ and in the top 5 at WW.
    * Berto was unranked by Ring/TBRB, but he was a former titleholder and was interim champion in the WBA. Top 20's within reach at WW for sure. Plus, he was friends with Floyd and Money wanted to give Berto a payday.

Corrales was considered a force at 130lbs for sure, but he didn't have the extended reign at the weight that Hernandez had. Plus, Genero gets points for continuing on after getting clocked after the bell by a still dangerous Nelson in order to win by decision. If you want to put Diego in a 130lb top 20, I wouldn't hate, but I think Chicanito's in for sure.

That said, I agree that Chico's still a great win for Floyd.

I understand your point, but the man in front of Floyd when he fought Chico imo was superior to Genero when he fought Floyd, which is what mattered from Floyd's perspective. Either way, that seems like the best two piece of wins at 130 other than maybe Manny beating Morales and edging Marquez.

That’s kind of a silly argument…he was a prime version of a guy who would be considered a top 100 fighter. He hadn’t accumulated the wins yet but he was already a beast and anyone who says otherwise is lying.

Also the criteria was top 100 fighter… if I beat the breaks of a 70 year old Roberto Duran I still fought a top 100 fighter…

Corralles was not 3 or 4. He was 5 by the Ring who jumped the gun. Nobody outside the Ring had him top 10. He was also dead at the weight, about to go to prison and cashing out, thus barely focused on the fight.
2001 p4p Jones, Tito, Mosley, De La Hoya, Hopkins, Tszyu, Lewis, Barrera, Morales etc; were better. Lol imagine thinking Choco was better than those guys because the Ring jumped the gun.
Chico wasn’t that good. He wasn’t bad but in reality he was probably 0-3 vs. Casamayor at a much better time in his life/career.
