Earliest filmed bout that you would actually watch for fun because it's entertaining?

I find Langford entertaining (maybe not against Flynn but it's because of Flynn). Gans fights also look really enjoyable.

I don't think there is a time in boxing when good brawl wasn't exciting.

I think it's a great fight, and YCIII's counters are thing of beauty and glory, he counters Fields to death in this fight, I absolutely love it.

Always felt as if he was by bone a heavyweight and by stature a fly… strange little outliner. Choynski was injured wasn’t he?

Who can not love the slo mo sequence of Dempsey and Sharkey passing one another at the end of a rd and Dempsey, without even looking at him, nonchalantly thumps Sharkey. A disgruntled Sharkey then stops and turns with that “Why you little….” look and whacks Dempsey back for his trouble, straightening him. Dempsey takes it without pause and just keeps walking to his corner.

All in a days work…..Dempsey could dish it but didn’t whimper when it was served back.

One of the worst old pieces of footage is shirtless, pasty white Corbett and McCoy in their pantaloons, putting on a boxing exhibition for the “troops”. Definitely one for the “boys”.

Corbett even executes an extremely butch pirouette with a backhand punch on its way as McCoy dutifully stands off. You don’t see moves like that anymore…mod. fighters my a**, .boxing technique has clearly gone backward over the years.

I haven't read anything about an injury, but Walcott beat the crap out of Joe C, a 7th round TKO. Walcott was outweighed by 25 pounds.

For comparison sake Injured or not if Artur Beterbiev fought Manny Pac and was royal licked it'd still be a huge feat.

Both formerly were posted on youtube as I recollect. I own VHS copies which I purchased or traded for from Tony Fosco in the late'90s or early 2000s. I have no way of digitizing them.

The Malone-Ralson bout (2 minutes or so) as well as a clip of Frankie Mason-Carl Tremaine bout was on the undercard of the Dempsey-Willard fight. It was included in the extended film of the event which is rarely shown. There is a two-part version of the extended film on youtube, but for some reason the undercard fights were edited out.

The filming of the O'Dowd-McCoy fight was duly noted in the newspapers at the time. It was the last legal bout in NY prior to the effective date of the Frawley Act which banned boxing in the state from 1917 until the passage of the Walker Law in 1920. That was probably the reason the bout was newsworthy enough to be filmed. The surviving clip probably runs less than 2 minutes, but it shows the knockout pretty clearly.

I see that Kurt Noltimier offers the Malone fight on his list (see https://www.ringwise.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Newest-Updates5-5-2017.pdf ). I would bet that he can furnish digital copies of not only that fight, but the O'Dowd fight as well.

Jock Malone is one of "my guys." Rostan is not much of a fighter, so Malone is given free rein to display his showmanship and technique.. Many of the fights I enjoy watching pit great fighters against average fighters. I like watching them because it gives the great fighter an opportunity to display his pet moves. Sometimes fights featuring two great technicians stifle the opportunities of both fighters to show their trademark stuff.

Pretty well documented as having busted ribs, some say from a Maher fight, more say a fall in the snow...

@KasimirKid I don't know how tech savvy you may or may not be, but there is a USB-to-composite video converter you can use. They are pretty inexpensive too.

I love watching Owen Moran knock out Battling Nelson, but the footage is quite limited
