The split is generous, not a joke. Based on earnings rather than opinions. The most common sense on this has been from Kalle Sauerland in his last IFL chat; explaining how a deal can be made that's fair and low risk. I think his chat of 700k PPV buys is a bit generous (unless it's global rather than just the UK) but with a decent live gate £20m total purse isn't unreasonable.
Split is more than fair. Let's see the fat bum step up or will the 'can man' duck another world title shot, only to moan about boxing politics.
Whyte should be grateful for 20 percent, probably going to end up with 5 million plus add ons, he is lucky Fury is champion and generates so.much interest and money . He was also lucky to be offered the same against joshua for the same reasons but he turned it down. Whyte should jump at a 20 percent with either because if he was having to fight say a Parker, Joyce, ortiz ,Martin etc he would be getting 20% of **** all!
The WBC have made a rod for their own back. They should have never given Whyte the Interim belt. Their rules do state that 45% is only in the event of when a champion has been out and returns otherwise the Interim is basically meaningless. It's all a sorry state of affairs.
Dillian should take the millions on offer and not worry about split %- it's the most money he will ever earn in his life and he surely has to realise he is not only the challenger but very much the b side here in every sense of the word. It was less than 18 months ago he was knocked out cold, so he is fortunate to be getting this shot due to ridiculous re-match clauses and a non entity of a contest vs a post covid 42 year old Povetkin. If he was fighting for a vacant belt against say a Joyce, Hrgovic or Dubois he would get smashed to pieces for a third of the money most likely, so if he is being well advised he will reach an agreement so the fight can go ahead.
The WBC do seem to be far from impartial and whilst I have some sympathy with Whyte on having to accept a 80/20 split I also feel that the opportunity to fight for a credible World title is a great opportunity and if 20% equates to £5M ? I have to ask how many fighters get that sort of purse? Dillian has marketed himself very well and in my opinion has earned in excess of his ability, whilst he probably has only a slim , at best , chance of beating Fury stranger things have happened. If he doesn’t take this chance who is he going to fight to earn £5M ? And more importantly who in the top 10 could be be more than 50% certain of victory? I think is sink or swim for Whyte.
I do wonder where all those claiming Whyte should take it as its his highest pay day possible were when AJ v Wilder was being negotiated. The same arguments being made why this split is fair certainly were not being used when AJ was being accused of ducking. The fact that it is even possible for Whyte to legally challenge this is down to the ambiguity of the WBC rules. Sort out the damn rule book, the status of the interim title and purse splits for mandatory challengers in a clear manner rather than leaving it open to interpretation.
People can have a pop at AJ, as I have when I think it's been warranted. But if AJ was in Whytes position he would take the fight v Fury and back himself knowing he would be earning the mega money if he wins. Whyte is crying because deep down he knows Fury would finish any notion he is an elite heavyweight.
