Did Martin vs Ortiz ruin Wilders resume?

Wilder never had a CV to speak of anyway. He has 3 notable fights on his CV, and he drew one (which should have been a loss), and lost the other 2.

 

I don't understand the hate for Ortiz. Last night was a great win for him at this stage of his career. It's obvious that he can not compete against the elite fighters but he deserves some credit for pulling off the win.

 

Part of the reason Martin looked good is that it was a southpaw vs southpaw matchup. Those are always dangerous unless either guy is used to facing another leftie. They spend so much of their careers working on timing and adjustments with an Orthodox fighter in mind. The other problem is Ortiz is simply getting older. He was already fairly old and had gotten slower before even the first wilder fight. His chin is still good and his upper body is still very strong, but his legs are getting very weak.

The first knockdown he was off balance. Martin hit him with a looping shot behind the head that he didn't see coming. But it's not Martin's fault, Ortiz was ducking and ran into the punch. Second knockdown I'm not even sure what happened, but Ortiz seemed to run into Martins jab with both men stepping forward.

Doesn't particularly hurt wilders resume. Martin has improved significantly since losing to Joshua. Strange how no one criticized Joshua's resume after wilder destroyed Brezeale in 1 round.

 

Neet will somehow manage to try to turn it round into showing how amazing Wilder is.

 

The worst version of Ortiz beat the best version of Martin. Martin has never been hit that hard in his life. The old man hit him so hard he had an out of body experience.

Not necessarily. Just because it was two years ago it doesn't mean Ortiz couldn't have declined significantly. It happens at that age, and he's been inactive Happened to Pac. But, even though I like Ortiz, it's an enigma just how good he was in his "prime" because we only have Wilder to go by. It could very well be that he wasn't all that.

 

They really wanted to get him some traction in the Cuban expat (and larger latino) demographic. So much boxing promotion focuses on fostering a fan base in a certain community but unless it's a boxing crazy country like Mexico or uk or japan doesn't seem to work as well

 

Talk about over hyping a fighter. Your heros best win is Wilder! Let that sink in. Your boy went life and death in the 3rd fight with Wilder. Fury is not that good.

That Wilder struggled against Ortiz as much as he did says more about how limited he is than how good Ortiz is.
