You keep repeating this and it's simply not true. The only person who beat him remotely close to his prime was Sonny Liston.

Machen, Rischer, Miteff, Richardson, etc rated all contenders at the time they faced him failed to beat him.

As for the "people who beat him saying he hit hard", Machen did not beating him, nor did Roy Harris, yet both thoght he hit harder and was faster than Liston.

Terrell, who was brutally knocked out by Williams (and imo was 0-2) said the following:
    His toughest opponent: Cleveland Williams

    "His left hook is poison."

"I fought Williams (Cassius Clay's Monday night victim Cleveland Williams) twice and I thought that man hit harder than even Liston. But the years were very much on Clay's side." Source: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/57503132/calgary-herald/

Williams. Early and brutally. Ingo has a puncher's chance against anyone with the Bingo so it's no foregone conclusion.

Very good match! Short but fun.

Ingo could play it careful, hell he was DQ’d for “passivity” in the O-Lympics, that’s how careful he could be.

However, from opening bell, I think Big Cat would bring it in such a way that Ingo will be forced to activate his Bingo in quick time - otherwise be overwhelmed.

Big Cat could actually box very well, nice jab, fast hands and great left hook.

However, when he sniffed blood, he went for broke, for better or worse. I think he’d be sniffing Ingo’s blood from the dressing room.

So he comes straight out to destroy, I’d give him 60/40 chance of succeeding but if not, then it’s Ingo’s hammer in counter that does the trick leaving Williams feeling Thor (groan) and sorry for himself.

Disclaimer: My analysis does not in any way detract from Ingo’s due rating as GOAT,

This is just a styles make fights thing and even though you can win most times (as my man Ingo did), you can’t win ‘em all.

If Ingo didn't have his "Bingo", then Williams might just stop the Swede..but with the Bingo, then hell no...the big cat gets put to sleep

You don’t know how hard it was making the % call against my man Ingo :( but sometimes you just gotta think with your head and not your heart.

Bit of a Cat Nap for big Cleve you reckon?

    Ingo definitely has that chance.

Williams and It seems pretty obvious on who to pick (at least for me).

Oh please. Ingemar Johansson decapitated Eddie Machen in one round. I don't care if Eddie Machen said Williams hit harder than Liston.

Neither Liston nor Williams knocked out Eddie Machen.

    Ingemar Johansson did.

If Machen didn't say Ingo hit him the hardest, it's probably because he has no recollection of the fight at all.

Machen was the #1 contender and Ingo destroyed him in two minutes.

What you totally ignore is Cleveland Williams had ZERO head movement. And he stood straight up and arched his back. He gets DESTROYED by Ingemar Johansson. WIPED OUT.

I don't need a bunch of quotes from Ernie Terrell (who beat Williams) saying Williams hit hard ... because Terrell never fought Johansson.

Williams was a sucker for an overhand right. All guys who stand straight up and don't move their heads are.

Styles make fights. And Williams was a sucker for Ingo's best punch.

    Johansson stops him early.

Machen got caught cold,it happens.Ingo would never agree to the rematch, for which I would pick Machen. Ingo hit Machen with everything before he stopped him,you make it sound as if he only had to land once for his fights to be over.
Friedrich ,stopped 7 times went the distance with him.
Bygraves ,stopped 7 times went the distance.
Bacilieri, stopped 9 times went the distance .

Ingo ko'd Floyd 1st time, what happened in the rematches? He got starched, Brian ****ing London had him on ***** street!
Ingo's best punch? WTF else did he have?

Cleveland took some wicked shots from Liston and landed some bombs on Sonny before falling. If the fight goes like that Ingo gets blasted out inside 3 rounds. If he can box and avoid Williams for the first part he could get a UD or late stoppage. A fight I would not bet on without good odds.

Ikr? He's the type of guy who could finish Ron Lyle faster than Foreman. Why can't he do the same on Johansonn?
