I'm not sure what you mean here?

If you mean you're going with the majority that's perfectly reasonable, for sure - but you've never seen this fight? So you'd mean you're adopting the majority view rather than agreeing I guess?

Ach, either way, it doesn't matter tbh, I just wanted to point out that you were wrong about almost all eye-witnesses thinking Walcott won. That's wrong.

It looks close as hell in the incomplete footage we have.

I think it's sensible to say the majority of reports are probably an accurate reflection, but you really can't judge from the footage.

I had (on rounds scoring) Louis winning 8-6-1, but two rounds were very close, as noted on my old score card. Had I been scoring with a more modern 10 point must system, I would have had it a 142-142 Draw, with Louis retaining the Lineal Championship. Joe Louis may have actually thought he lost the fight, but I didn't (and don't) agree with him.

Braddock, B Bear and Galento have to rate somewhere, after all they had Louis down. The contenders go the 1930's were rated higher than most on this list. Never mind that they would be dog meat today.

it might be so, yes. But I think Louis’s reflection, the majority’s (despite Louis being widely admired and loved) and the ref are enough for me.

I don't give very heavy weighting in these rankings, to men who put Louis on the canvas, then got annihilated in a one sided manner.

that is not how fights are won!

Let's assume that Walcott deserved the decision, and it is a bit of an assumption.

Louis was basically ready for the scrap yard.

I would give a fighter more respect, for a win or a near miss, against a version of Louis close to his prime.

    My take.

Max Schmeling's win over Louis, is far far more impressive than Walcott's near miss.

That should not even be debated.

Godoy's SD is arguably more impressive, because he was at least facing a prime version of Louis.

Conn was simply magnificent, against a prime Joe Louis.

You have to think that some of these guys, might have done OK for themselves, when Walcott was champion?

I agreed with every point you made. The losing effort part was pointing out by most accounts it WASN'T a losing effort.

Are you only allowing title defences? If so I think you have it about right.
