I think Lionel Rose’s portrait against 68 Harada is about the best a prodigy has ever done in my books. Obviously you can include wins by younger men the ceiling for the age in this discussion is 20.

I think Ezzard beating Charley Burley aged 20 is up there.

    Tony Canzoneri deserves looking at.
    As does Jimmy McLarnin.

Probably a lot of fighters from that era, in the lower weight classes.

I don’t think Cervantes is a better scalp then Harada and Wilfred was actually older then labeled by about 2 or more years.

Sure, I agree Harada is a better scalp.
I didn't know that about Benitez. If true, that would explain a lot.

Yeah, there was a birth certificate for a WILFREDO Benitez with an older age. There is an article titled "Broken Radar" or something like that, that goes into a bit of detail about it I was taken back and a little disappointed to be honest as Benitez was my first true boxing hero I was obsessed with his style and back story growing up and when I first stepped into the gym I wanted to know how to fight like El Radar...

Fighting Harada dominated Pone Kingpetch to win the world flyweight title aged 19. The way he took him apart was mightily impressive.

Funny enough I thought you might be talking about Rose before I even opened this thread. It was a masterclass for me.

There were circumstances, but a 17 year old Sam Langford defeating prime Joe Gans was absolutely astonishing. The method of the victory - it was widely reported that Langford had "out-generalled" or out-thought Gans - was even more so.

Gans was fighting Langford as a part of a barnstormer and he had a stomach problem going in, but still.
