I think so. He won the title much younger, had more title fight wins, and was a global celebrity. Weather or not one thinks he was superior or inferior to Liston is subject to debate, but I think Mike Tyson left a more memorable impression on boxing if for nothing else than the social impact.

Yes, if only because of the media.

    His legacy is bigger!

    Me too.

He was terrific in the 80s, top five h2h for sure imo. Liston just didn't defend his title a whole lot, and I feel we lost couple of years when he would have been champion (not his fault).

Yes. A dimension above Liston's manufactured 'legacy'.

Sonny Liston is on the dark side of boxing history — surrounded by fear, violence, and injustice.

Mike Tyson might be controversial, but he will be remembered as long as this planet is spinning.

Both are about even, though both were very talented, Mike Tyson did not get off the canvas against James Buster Douglas on the night of Feb 11 1990 and Sonny Liston quit against Muhammad Ali on Feb 25 1964. Liston was counted out on the canvas against Ali on May 25 1965. Both later fought mediocre opposition after losing their titles, Tyson being stopped by champion Lennox Lewis in 2002, Sonny being stopped by Leotis Martin in Dec 1969. Tyson did have more title defenses than Liston who had only one, a first round knockout of Floyd Patterson on July 22 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Yes, he is a greater figure in the sport fame wise, without a doubt, but I also think that his record is better even though I also can see an argument for Liston having the better record.

    Yes of course.
Sonny liston's legacy is based on 2xKO1 Floyd Patterson.
Sonny Liston flashed like a meteor in the night sky; Mike is not.
    Just a legacy, nothing else.
