Doesn't that apply to Ingo vs Patterson as well? And the fact Patterson said he hit the hardest even tho he got destroyed by Liston much more brutally?

Ingo is underrated here, I'd strongly favor him in this matchup. Williams defense is sloppy and his chin isn't the best, Ingo would land his right at some point.

I do know that Eddie Machen went to court to block the title match between Floyd Patterson and Ingo on June 26 1959, it was thrown out of court, the injunction was a failure. Ingo wanted his shot, he already starched Machen, saw no point to a rematch, it could have delayed things according to Johansson.

I believe there was an agreement for a rematch and Ingo ran out on it,not sure how binding it was.

I think Williams ko's Patterson ,so Ingo doing it once out of three tries doesn't impress me, especially as he was sloppy as hell doing it.
Williams never became champion and his wins are not that awe inspiring ,the fact that he was shot right bang in the middle of his prime might have something to do with that?lol
Johansson has a pretty thin resume at world level, what is his excuse?
Johansson is very overated imo.His rep rests on the Machen fight and beating Floyd once out of three times.
ps You don't have to remind me of anything, I watched those fights as they happened.

Terrell lost two split decs to Gray .Terrell was having his 9th and 14th fights Gray his 24th and 25th, and Terrell was 19 years old in both those fights.
    Terrell was top ten ranked for 5 years and beat;
    Chuvalo
    Williams
    Machen
    Folley
    Jones
    Foster
    Zech
    Lincoln
He was a bona fide top contender, WBA Champ ,and his resume shits all over Ingo's.

I think it comes down to who lands the big one first. If Williams gets there first, he wins. If Ingo gets there first with his bingo, he wins.

Edwin Ahlquist signed a document right before the fight agreeing that if Johansson won there would be a rematch in Chicago in late January or early February 1959, and that Johansson wouldn't fight anyone else in the US until that agreement was fulfilled. But Ahlquist and Johansson disowned the agreement immediately, arguing that although Ahlquist had been acting as Johansson's manager he had no legal power to sign contracts on his behalf. Ahlquist also claimed that he had signed under duress, when Machen's manager Sid Flaherty threatened to back out of the fight if he didn't sign. As Flaherty told it, he had been under the impression that they already had an agreement in principle for a rematch, and just left it till the last minute before insisting that they got it on paper.

Johansson wasn't stupid, of course. He knew that just because he'd landed his signature punch early in their first meeting, it didn't mean it would happen again. The risks of giving Machen a rematch far outweighed the benefits.

Williams is more of an agenda than a real fighter these days.

Ingo is a vastly superior boxer with vastly superior wins. Big Cat might hold a 5-10 lb weight advantage which is not grounds for favoritism at heavyweight. There isn't any intrigue here. Williams has a reach advantage but lacked the skills to utilize it. Ingo controls and wins by early KO.

    Thanks for posting this.
Joey Maxim lost to Curtiss Sheppard by 1 rd ko,but he had beaten Sheppard previously and would again.
Mike Weaver got caught cold before he had warmed up by Mike Dokes, the rematch saw them fight a majority draw but most everyone thought Weaver deserved the nod. " One swallow"
Lurid descriptions of Machen being "decapitated" are just BS .
As is the description of Machen being just out of the psycho ward when he lost to Terrell Machen was treated for depression in1962,he fought Terrell in1965 ,3 years later, when Machen was Ring ranked no 9.

I deviated from the original thread topic to point out that your statement that "Williams lost to everybody, and the only people who say he hit hard are people who beat him". This is indisputably not true, and you know it's not true (as you've argued against it in the past which I've showed) so you LIED.

    "Ernie Terrell BEAT Cleveland Williams."

    Interesting you should say that

    Pot calling the kettle black?

Liston said Williams had the same power as himself, but not his chin.

This is becoming amusing at this point. After belittling Choklab for using Williams' post gunshot losses against him, here you are spouting this non-sense.

Could you make your agenda, hypocrisy, and double standards any clearer? You're a clown.

They had ONE common opponent who Williams didn't KO that Ingo did; Machen

Another common opponent they shared was Richardson Williams dropped him in the first round, and dominated him before winning via disqualification in the 4th. Ingemar needed 8 rounds to drop and finally stop a significantly older Richardson, and in the very little footage we have of the fight, we can frequently see him turning his away as he was bleeding profusely from a very nasty cut from an eye.

Also if performances against common opponents were any indication, Ingo should've wiped the floor with London.

London, Williams, and Johannson shared two common opponents. Richardson, and Machen. London's performances were clearly the worst of the three. Williams and Ingo went undefeated against both where as London was brutally stopped by both.

Instead Ingo failed to land his signature punch, and was brutally dropped in the final round by London, who was never know for his power, prompting the ref to say "I would have stopped the fight if the bell had not saved Johansson. He could not have continued.". Ingo should count his lucky stars it was a 12 rounder and not a 15, or else he would have another KO loss on his already paper-thin resume.
