Johansson looked better against prime versions of Machen and Patterson than Quarry did against aged ones. But this doesn’t always mean victory. I’m thinking Johansson might be susceptible to getting hit with counter punches as he advances forward and possibly stopped. Dangerous fight for quarry though who was sometimes prone to getting decked early and cut. Good fight

I doubt Johansson would advance forward. Johansson's style was more to wait and counter punch.

Maybe not. It would have been interesting to see Ingo fight a few more too guys and have some more fights. Quarry fought everybody

It wasn't my impression that Johansson was a typical aggressive puncher like Lyle, Shavers, or Foster were. More of a sneaky oddball who hit hard.

Ingo is an ideal opponent for Quarry. Johasson was a high level "Hail Mary" puncher, like a better version of Mac Foster or a slightly more polished Earie Shavers.
Quarry was a really educated counter puncher with a splendid variety. He could lead with almost any punch in the book. The minute Ingo loads up on the hammer he's susceptible to a jab / right / left hook or uppercut from either hand.
Johansson's right was an atomic punch but he's not taking Jerry out with just one of them. I see a confused and hurt Ingo being stopped in six or seven.

I'm not confident Ingo has the ticker to continue when he is badly hurt, nor that his chin is sturdy enough to take Jerry's best .

Not quite good enough to beat Machen though, who he destroyed in real life.

Wilder would have likely destroyed many 60s heavies bit he still gets crap on this forum. It's not hard to imagine him or AJ putting Machen out to pasture.

I guess Wilder would KO Machen, sooner or later.
Joshua might have to settle for a decision.

Against that Quarry was 21 years old when he fought Machen, and 22 when he fought Patterson.

He was world champion, and earned his shot by destroying the leading contender.

I think he beat other 'ranked' fighters. He beat all the best British fighters, that's for sure. He beat most of the best Europeans. Then beat two of the very best Americans, including world champion.
Those are real achievements that shouldn't be dismissed, in my opinion.

He defeated 2 ranked fighters Patterson, who was champion and Machen no 1.
Cooper had been ko'd in his previous 2 fights, and was unranked.
Richardson was having his next to last fight and was unranked.Cooper put him away in his last fight ,and he did it rather quicker.
Erskine too was unranked.Ingo tkos him via retirement in13 rds,4 months later London knocked Erskine out in 8 rds.
In his 6 years as a ranked heavy Ingo somehow never fought the following ranked contenders.
    Liston
    Jackson
    Baker
    Moore
    Folley
    DeJohn
    Harris
    Valdes
    Cleroux
    McMurtry
    Ali
    Pastrano
    Miteff
    Bethea
    Satterfield
And he reneged on a contract to rematch Machen, the only ranked contender he beat.
Good fighter, very well guided ,but no great!
