Gone are the days of heavyweights like Liston, Ali, Foreman, Frazier etc., heavyweight boxers who ducked no one. Nowadays most of the heavyweights are chicken poop.
Yeah exactly. I respect Parker, but you just can't duck a final eliminator fight. This was his chance to come back at top level(let's said it like that). He beat Chisora impressively, and if he was to beat Hrgovic everyone would have talking about him. You can't duck such an opportunity. I think Boxing need to change big time, and such duck should not be allowed. If you are ordered to fight, you do it, otherwise they should get you out of their top 15 ranking. I think this would be fair. I expected Ortiz to duck this fight, but kinda shocked that Parker has done it too ... Perkin Warbeck, to be fair Ali ducked Foreman rematch big time.
Whilst somewhat disappointing, it's not unexpected. I predicted that Parker would be going the WBO route as soon as he beat Chisora, but was told that Hearn was trying to make the Hrgovic fight, which seemed like a strange match-up to me from Parker's perspective but made sense for Hearn. Parker has always been fighting on the WBO ladder. Joyce is #1 by default, and Parker is #2. So I expect they are pursuing the Joyce fight, which would be for a lot more money than Hrgovic, and if Parker becomes the WBO mandatory his title shot would be directly after the IBF, or the belts get fractured. Now IF he doesn't go the WBO route either, then I will join everyone calling Parker a ducker. But this is a little different to the Ortiz situation where he actually engaged in a IBF eliminator then doesn't want the IBF final eliminator. Hopefully Yoka sees this as a good opportunity and takes the fight.
Ali fought every contender from his era. He travelled to other countries for fights too, he never demanded home advantage, unlike some of the modern-day prima donnas.
I said this yesterday im feeling its going to he kabayel. I doubt Yoka's team accepts this, though I would be pleasantly surprised.
Very poor from Parker. Let us have no more talk of a "new" Parker. Same guy. I don't know....I don't think much or Hrgovic, but the way fighters go running from him, maybe I am missing something.
Apparently. He's turning down an eliminator. I am not saying he is scared of the fight, but he clearly doesn't like his chances. There are different levels of "scared."
Yeah but one in the hand is worth two in the bush. When you are handed an eliminator, you take it. Hey, if he can beat Joyce and clinch that spot, I'll be the first to say congratulations. I think Joyce is the tougher opponent anyway. I think this is a huge mistake.
I personally think he should have gone for it too, but never know what goes on behind closed doors. His team surely have a good reason. Wonder what Hearns take on this is...
